You guys realize ribbon boards suck right?

Gonna have to disagree.
1) It adds a modern touch to our stadium. JTS is not the new kid on the block by any means.
2) This looks better in the eyes of a recruit. Not only that we are dedicated to supporting the football facilities, but let's face it - it looks cool to a kid coming out of high school to see big flashing stuff!
3) Advertising revenue is a good thing! This is a better options that having the Pioneer Seed logo as hash-marks!
4) The opportunity to show of stats from our game and other games around the country are fantastic. I know with smart phones now this may not seem as important, but for those of use who watch the game and don't have to be on our phones 24/7, it's a nice touch for the game day environment.
5) The football team has not been doing well during it's home games as of late. Anything to help the crowd get into the game, I'm all for it. This can help.

My downsides to a ribbon board:
1) I got nothing

You guys realize ribbon boards suck right? They're used 95% for advertising and are annoying as hell. I don't get why anybody would be excited about more advertising going into a stadium?
The concrete slab between the two decks is already plastered with ads as it is, so your point is invalid. Having a digital display will add a much more modern, cohesive look to the stadium. The university can change the ads simply via software, which is a huge advantage over physical sign. It can also be used to display statistics, scores from around the country, and cool graphics during the game. I also assume that it will be much easier to read than some of the other boards that are there right now. I can barely read the scores from around the country from my seat.

You make my point better than I with the obvious frustration.

The fact Iowa State has experts in growing turf is only part of the reason for JTS to have it over artificial. Pro players overwhelmingly favor natural grass
and in my experience I'd have to agree. Though in the long-term grass is more costly, the players interests seem to favor it for reasons, in their opinions, of safety, comfort, aesthetics and past experience.

There are growing concerns about the ground up tires from artificial turf causing cancer:

Of course there needs to be more research done, but I'm glad we still have grass.

As far as the stadium is concerned I think they should incorporate a cyclone (gold cyclone with cardinal outline) design into the endzone club seats. Then on game days give them cards (which are coordinated with the design) that can be held up for the start of the game when the team runs out.

Downside: Gone will be the one little light up "scores around the country" board that is never really updated in a timely manner. :)

I'm sure there will be programing to make the ribbon do cool stuff, too!
