Tinsley or Morris

Different type of players but Tinsley may have been the most valuable clone of any position ever. Morris has the potential but at this point is the most reliable passers in ISU history but not the greatest PG (yet).

Tinsley. This isn't even a debate yet.

Why? Because you've proclaimed it so? Give me a break.

I've always been a huge Tinsley fan, but Jamal never DEMOLISHED the NCAA's all-time assist to turnover ratio like Morris did (during his freshman year, no less). In fact, there were games where Tinsley had a significant number of turnovers.

I'm not saying Morris is the best point guard, but I believe it's worthy of debate. People who state their OPINION as though it were fact make me shake my head.

Tinsley helped win the big 12. Btw i love monte but tinsley would leave his jock on the floor if Monte was guarding him.

I couldn't disagree with this more. Morris lives off stealing the ball from guards who love the yoyo dribble. I'll take Morris, especially Morris as a junior and senior, which is what Tinsley was.

I love Morris' offensive improvement this year. Last year he only shot 3-pointers or fastbreak layups. This year he's added mid-range jumpers off the dribble, a very reliable floater, pick and roll with him driving to the rim, and just the ability to drive hard to te basket and take some contact. I can't even imagine how much better he'll be next year.

All that said, still Tinsley for now.

Tinsley. Maybe montee gets there but I don't think he's close yet. I heard an interesting discussion on Cowherd this week about risk taking. Someone had asked Calipari about TOs and he said he wanted to see some because you have to take some risks to have success. I think this applies to MM a bit. Over time I'd be ok if the assist to TO ratio comes down because he tries more things. Plus JT was a better scorer, at this point anyway. Mm has shown me some things this past week or two, however.

It is worth noting that Jamaal Tinsley was player of the year in the Big 12 in 2001 and a 2nd team All American that season as well.

And Tinsley averaged over 2.6 steals per game while Morris averages 1.7 steals per game this year. Tinsley definitely turned the ball over more than Morris while having about the same assists per game. Tinsley's team was not as deep.

Tinsley started for a playoff team as an NBA rookie. That's impressive.
I love me some Morris, but he is not Tinsley.

Still JT, but Monte closing. The good news is that this thread is going to hang around for a while.

Morris will NEVER let his team play to within 1 point of a Hampton team. You know what I mean?

Tinsley's jersey should be in the rafters.

Rafter Memorials should be reserved for VERY special Cyclones. Not just on field performance. Citizenship and Cyclone loyalty should count too. Has Tinsley ever been back to Ames? I'm no puritan, but jeesh, how hard is it to be a good alumni? I have said this before, if he spent the money that he did on hookers instead on Athletic Dept. donations or maybe a scholarship for other Bed-Stuy kids to get some advantages in life...then we could talk rafters maybe. Quit wasting thread space saying that Tinsley should have a number retired......No way. He is loved and can always come back. Heck, I would drink a beer with him at Des Moines Social Club.

Tinsley had 153 turnovers during 1999-2000 and 117 during 2000-2001 season. Morris only turned over 35 times thus far this season. Also, Morris is a much better shoort than Tinsley. He is shooting 51% this season, which is incredible for a point guard. Tinsley only shot 37.8 and 39.9% during his 2 years at ISU.

I LOVE Monte Morris. Love him.

BUT.....Tinsley, and I don't even have to think hard about it. You put Tinsley in Fred Hoiberg's offense, with this spacing and overall offensive weapons....look out.

Tinsley had 19 pts, 23 assists, and 11 rebounds in an NBA game. Think about how absurd that line is. He was a magician with the ball.

Don't think we should consider the NBA in this comparison. MM is better w the ball, less turnovers more assists. Different type player as he is a "pass first" point not one that tries to score. Perfect point guard for this team. Also a kid that will probably be here for 4 years while Tinsley just stopped here on his journey to the NBA. Know who I would rather have.

I'll keep it short. Numbers aren't retired. Tinsley's jersey should be in the rafters.

You can tell who the people are that didn't get to see Tinsley play as a Cyclone in this thread. (not stopping them from 'matter of fact' statements though)
