I know why CFH is not wearing ties this year on the sidelines!

It was announced that the he needs to have a heart valve replaced!

I do not have a link or anything like that, but I heard it was announced at the Big 12 tourney in KC.

If he wore neck ties, it may constrict arteries.

Who believes me? I think the official news will break after the tourney...we will see.

I think when we were down to OU at halftime he made some comment I thought I was going to have to wear neck ties again.

It might have something to do with his heart.

But I don't think his surgery is going to necessarily be this offseason.

This all started a few weeks ago at the media avail when Hoiberg was asked about the contest. He mentioned that at some point he will have to have his valve replaced (and this has been known since he was hired). After Pollard's heart attack Randy Peterson wrote that Hoiberg was having the surgery this year. I am 90% positive Randy is wrong. Hoiberg never said that the surgery was going to be this year---he said that he gets checked out after the season.

And everyone has kind of run with the story that it was happening this year.

Musburger said he was having heart surgery this summer. But my initial reaction was that was just Musburger spouting off about stuff. You think we would have heard more about it if that was the case.

If I remember correctly, Mush Mouth mentioned something about CFH having major surgery this summer. I cannot recall what game he mentioned it in, but I know he said it.

I think you are closer to right than Peterson or Mushmouth but we will see. He just had the pacemaker done this last year.

Yeah and I don't think that's the case necessarily. Like I said, Randy Peterson wrote the story that the surgery is happening this summer. But Hoiberg hasn't said anything publicly about it being this summer. He's said consistently (since he was hired) that he gets checked out every year and eventually the valve will have to be replaced. In fact, he said the same thing today on Katz's show.

Now, I suppose that Randy might know something that we don't know and something that Hoiberg hasn't stated in public. But, if so, it seems like he might not want to report that.

In all honesty, it does seem like the surgery is coming fairly soon, but I don't think that anything is known by the general public at that time.

This may be of no use to anyone at all, but I actually am an RN on a cardiac floor at that one big hospital here in Iowa City. If anyone has any questions about medical heart stuff I can try and give you answers. Not that I know anything about Hoiberg's specific condition, other than he has a pacer, but maybe I can shed some light on anything you're wondering about.

And since we're talking about CFH and heart stuff--I have many patients who find out they need to get pacers, and when they do, they worry that they won't be able to maintain an active lifestyle. I often use Hoiberg as an example of how a person can live a normal life despite having a pacemaker or a heart condition.

I actually follow this stuff fairly closely (for a fan) because part of me wonders if he uses the surgery as an excuse to make the move to the NBA, so I'm fairly confident that he hasn't said the surgery is this year. And like I said, I am 90% sure that in the press conference that Randy used to write that story, Fred didn't at all say that the surgery was this year.

But I do think that the surgery is probably coming up fairly soon. When he was hired he talked like it was years away. But I think that valve is probably going bad a little faster than they thought.

In the end, it's a little weird to be talking about this. It will obviously be a major surgery.

So he's having surgery soon but it's an excuse to go to the NBA? So hes going to the NBA soon? My guess is it's something as simple as he doesn't want to tie our best school finish-he wants to best it.

When they replace the valve in the heart with pig or cattle valves, is it normal that it has to be replaced very often?

It was announced that the he needs to have a heart valve replaced!

I do not have a link or anything like that, but I heard it was announced at the Big 12 tourney in KC.

If he wore neck ties, it may constrict arteries.

Who believes me? I think the official news will break after the tourney...we will see.

Is this good news or something? You seem so excited.

I think when we were down to OU at halftime he made some comment I thought I was going to have to wear neck ties again.

My speculation, based on that tweet of his, is that he's not wearing a tie while we're ranked. Getting blown out by OU in Ames might have dropped us from the rankings, hence needing to wear the tie again.

I thought he stopped wearing it after one of our early season games when he thought we were playing too uptight. I assumed no tie was a symbol of playing loose. I also assumed that's why he said he'd announce his reason for losing the tie after the season. If your tie cuts off circulation, you're doing it wrong.

Not a secret. Maybe the timing but everything else has been widely known for years. And I figured everyone could make the link between the ties and his procedure.

Any chance you have inside information on 5 star recruits? THAT would be more interesting.
