Well that just plan sucked. Not totally surprised by the poor performance after the battles through the Big 12 tourney this team is just plain tired and it showed. Just a lack of hustle and smart play in the game and in the end they just couldn't suck it up. Disappointing to say the least.
My Big XII Champs shirts haven't even arrived yet. But at least I'll have those when they do.
I hope we have a major development between now and the start of next season that adds to what should already be a great team. Is it November yet?

Its not all smoke and mirrors, I never saud that. This team has some pretty significant weaknesses and they were exposed. When the margin for error is so slim, the chances for this type of game in this tourney are increased. If this team is clicking on all cyclinders, they can beat nearly anyone. But how many FF teams are able to operate on this thin of a margin?
Just got back from the game, ugh. I don't know if it's been this way all season and you just get a little better view in person, but BDJ's body language was horrendous all game, even in warm ups. Thought maybe he was sick or something. Then during a timeout he was throwing a fit and coach Byars had to calm him down. If I had to guess that probably played a big part in him not playing in the second half. He just didn't seem into it at all. Time to drink some bourbon.
Iowa State's problems surfaced today. Let's name them.
1) Defense: Wasn't bad today, not the reason Iowa State lost.
2) Not taking teams seriously/sense of entitlement: Losing to South Carolina, it's a one time thing, they'll bounce back. Losing to Tech, it's a wakeup call. @Kansas St.: stuff happens. All the comebacks in the past 5 games were covering this flaw. In those comeback games I would say they took the game seriously but weren't ready for the tip.
3) Usage of timeouts: Others have pointed this out and I thought it was stupid, but Fred not using a timeout on the shot clock violation possession was a bad mistake. Sometimes I think he gets caught by being a fan instead of being a coach. You hear people say, "he lets his team play through mistakes". Umm, if there was a time to not do that, it would be right there.
I was one of the only people that agreed Iowa State was a team around the 15-20 range. Could be a top 5 team one day, a team that loses to UAB/Texas Tech/South Carolina the next. They played with fire too much and it ended up costing them.
I also found it ironic and fitting they had a double digit lead and lost. There were a lot of positives but with the talent coming back next year there's definitely a lot to improve on if ISU wants to make the next step and be a top 10 program nationally.

Sorry, this team's main "weakness" is consistent effort. With our length and athleticism, this should be a tremendous defensive team, getting in passing lanes and denying the ball. But that takes work.
...the idea that getting after loose balls and not paying attention to things like crowds might be a better habit to have in tight games like today, when the basketball was loose, and it looked like ISU's habits of not getting after that kind of thing aggressively showed up in a bad way.
McKay needs to add about 20lbs so he isn't trying to rebound standing among the cheerleaders and Niang needs to hit the gym hard in the off season. Saw the before and after pictures of his weight loss. How does a D1 basketball player let themselves get that out of shape? Fundamentals are really bad. Lots of flat footed ball staring going on. Had a fun season and only see us getting better next year. Thanks to the team for an entertaining winter. Get a couple issues straightened out and next year will be really fun
Personally not surprised. This team and all of CFH's teams have shown they can play with/beat anyone, but they can also play down to whoever too.
I also tend to think people overrate the talent on this team. To me we are now competitive with any team, but not superior. There aren't any locks on this team to play in the NBA. Morris/Mckay have a chance , but aren't locks or even close at this point. Against good competition away from Hilton this team needs to play smart and show good energy for more than just spurts.
I would slot this year's a little below the 2000-1 team as regular season conf champ > tourney conf champ.
It will look okay in the record books in a few years.

Hey, you could be 100% bang on right, however, you could also be totally wrong. Some players and teams are better with their heads 100% down and emotionless, other players and teams feed off of things like reacting to crowds and wearing their emotions on their sleeve. The point is, you don't know, you can't know, and yore making huge assumptions and revising history.
If we had won today and Naz threw up the Three fingers at some point after a three would I be right in saying, "Oh boy good thing Naz threw up the threes in Iowa City because if he hadn't then he wouldn't have made that shot today."
We need players that can rebound, and who have the fire to want to rebound.

It was fun talking up my Cyclones this year in Ohio State territory. Unfortunately I did such a good job that I convinced quite a few people into picking ISU to go a little farther in the tournament. I may have to bring in Pizza. But I got to look at the bright side, my weekends are now wide open and we probably don't have to worry about our players leaving to the NBA now for another year. Next year we will improve., gotta think we will be ranked top 10 in the preseason. Gotta give props to UAB for their rebounding strategy. One would have thought we would have gotten more transition points with their rebounding strat. but they were quite effective.

Call it heart or call it chemistry. This team struggled with it for the entire season. Great talent, but I never thought they gelled. The previous five games, and I thought they may have put it together. But looking at it now a team with great chemistry would put together two halves of basketball in one game.
Lack of intensity down the stretch, Niang and Naz were off and no one else really stepped up enough. And Hogue had one of his worst games as cyclone....
Someone rewatch Fred's half time interview and try to read BDJ's lips in the background. I'd like to know if I am imagining what I think he was saying.
