Today is one month without drinking.

My family went to a friend's cabin for the 4th of July and all but one other adult drank. I'll admit there were times when I thought "Maybe I was too quick to give it up - a few drinks on vacation won't hurt". I spoke with another sober man (30 years my senior) and he said those thoughts pass and to stay strong. Thankfully no one went out to the bars so there were not any awkward conversations about why I didn't want to go. It hasn't been as hard as I was expecting but there are also more things going on to keep me occupied in the summer.
Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! As time moves on it will get easier, and your coping mechanisms will get stronger. Keep up the fight!

Just some perspective, but I would avoid this idea. Especially when it comes to being around old friends that were drinking buddies. In fact, I would argue that it becomes more difficult as time goes on. It will get easier to talk yourself into relapsing with justification games ("It's been a year, surely I can handle just one and stop there" "I won't let it get so bad this time, I know what the warning signs are now," etc.), especially if you put yourself into situations where you're virtually the only other person not drinking in a large group, or you're in a bunch of situations where you used to drink fairly heavily. If your goal is to never drink again, be aware of the justification game your mind will play.

That said, good job on realizing the justification was there.

Doing great secondname. Lotta guts being shown by you so far. Keep bumping the thread with the good news. Every month is great, but if it helps to do it daily, someone will be rooting you on.

Congrats and well done. Takes a strong person to address an inner struggle like alcoholism. Good for you for taking it head on.
