Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Agree Pollard knows the day will come and Fred has been up front about the NBA. Fred has paid ISU back 10 fold
The post you quoted had nothing to do with this.

I honestly believe that Fred as humble as he is will leave before he passes Orr in wins because he doesn't want to show up his mentor.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Whatever Fred decides, I can only wish him the best. He has earned it. Selfishly, I would be very disappointed. I always felt that Fred would be Iowa State's version of the Wizard of Westwood.

P.S. First time poster, but I have read the threads daily for years. Old guy putting my 2 cents in.

Really? You think that Fred wouldn't know that JO would roll over in his box if he pulled that?

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Have we heard this out of Pollard previous to today?
Slight difference. I think it is a fairly significant difference though. Others will disagree.

Cat = Iowa State fanbase.
Lizard cat's watching = Fred Hoiberg
Lizard that comes up to cat = Media.

"The ISU fanbase continues to nervously monitor Fred Hoiberg's every move. Everything seems calm until the media sneaks up and informs the fanbase that Hoiberg to the NBA COULD happen. Chaos ensues over virtually nothing."

Jesus that would be stupid. I am guessing that Johnny would love it if one of his guys beat his wins. But if so, he's got 4 more years. If Fred leaves, Jamie should beg Jeff hornecek to take the job and apologize for ignoring him 5 years ago.

So if Fred is sitting on 218 wins in say mid February 2019 he just walks in the locker room and tells his guys "its been real," and walks off into the sunset?

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Personally I think he will leave, but if he does or does not I think there is another point to consider...

First, as sad as I would be to see him go, Fred has to do what he thinks is best for him, how many of us would turn down what would seem to be quite a promotion?

As far as ISU goes, no matter what year he leaves it will put us at a disadvantage because unless he goes to a non-playoff time (which I doubt he would other than Minnesota), we don't have an open coaching position until late May at the earliest. Especially bad this year because we have a great team coming back to attract a good coach and nearly all of the "sexy" candidates are gone. Nothing against TJ, but we are legit top 15 program now with good exposure, we need an established coach to keep things going forward, but I am really concerned that whenever D-Day arrives, we will end up being a bridesmaid.

I'll just put this here...
http://www.cbssports.com/nba/writer...-buzz-is-tom-thibodeau-bound-for-the-big-easy
:wideeyed:

"If Thibodeau and the Bulls, indeed, parted ways, it would set off shockwaves in the coaching business. Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg is widely believed to be the Bulls' preferred replacement, but who would replace him in Ames, Iowa? There's a growing belief that Iowa State would try to lure another Cyclones great from the NBA: Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, currently making less than Hoiberg's average salary with less security than college jobs offer."

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

I think the media is preparing us mentally for Hoiberg leaving to the NBA. Was it suggested by local governments to lessen a full scale mutiny when the news arrives? Cyclonefanatic is beating us to death with Hoiberg to NBA news. And it is very concentrated. Usually there is a little space in-between. For god sakes just hire Hoiberg already, stop this vicious game we are playing. Do you see what I am trying to say? Why are long pants long? Why are bushes, bushy? We could go down this path all day.

No. Fred can do math and see when he might/should pass the wins and would leave the season before that. Like I said it's just my opinion.
