Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Rose has said he wants Thibs back. With that roster including a healthy Rose all year, they're going to be in the thick of the playoffs again next year.

Ive been a big TT supporter but I think I want to roll the dice on a coach who can avoid crushing offensive droughts. The offensive weapons were there this year and the offense didn't change much. Plus Rose is a time bomb anyway. Jimmy Butleris the only reliable star in his prime and will be an FA.

Still my #1 bb dream is just for Fred to build an ISU dynasty.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I anticipate a Hoiberg pay raise and NBA buyout increase, an Alvin Gentry pay raise, and Thibs to be the coach of the Bulls next year.

How many times have we seen the "favorite" not be the coach hired and the national media get egg on their face?

There's no chance that Fred is signing a contract that increases his NBA buyout. If his goal is to coach in the Association, why would he put up a barrier to that goal??

If he doesn't take this one, I have my doubts about him ever leaving. Ready-built team that's an offensive coach away from making a run and that job is in the Midwest. Its this one or never, IMO...

I've got a trenchcoat and a boombox with Peter Gabriel queued up.

thats been my problem from the beginning. We are going to hire a first time coach who has tried and failed to get mid major jobs to coach s top 10 team.

Yet hoiberg will tell us he is doing us a favor.

Woj is never wrong on this sort of NBA report. Never. Hoiberg is who they want, the ball is in his court at this point. Personally if I was him I would go with Jimmy about to be locked up for the next 4+ years and Noah coming off the books in 2016 coupled with the cap spike. Plus theres a chance they get Sacramento's pick next year if SAC's upper management makes some moves this offseason to go with Boogie

. That's a pretty decent situation in the east.

On another note topic wise I really think Sam Presti should've hired Alvin Gentry instead of Billy Donovan from UF. He might not be the greatest X&O whiteboard coach in the world but he's respected throughout the league and really relates well with NBA players. Basically just a much better version of Scott Brooks. I'm not sure their core guys are going to love playing for Billy Donovan and if KD bounces after next season they're back to being a bottom feeder cause without KD there's no way Westgod is staying past 2017. The Lakers might feast when the Donovan dominos play out

But back to Fred
Please Stay

Exactly if Fred wants to coach in the NBA then this is the best set up for him.

This isn't inside knowledge or anything like that but I work at a sports media company out East and the general thought around here is that Fred's heart condition and whether he'd be able to hold to an entire NBA season may be a major concern for the bulls. Doesn't mean he's not at the top of their list but it's definitely a factor.

If Fred leaves and TJ is the head man I'm cool with that, TJ can recruit especially at the high school level it's all about recruiting connections for the college game.

The question at this point is if Fred wants the job, IMO. Pretty clear he is the Bulls top choice, but nobody knows what Fred wants.

"Tried and failed to get mid major jobs". He took his name out of the running for a few jobs this year. I don't think it's all that uncommon for a long time assistant coach to be hired for a major head coaching job.
