Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I don't think Hoiberg leaves this year. He just had major heart surgery and I think he knows he won't be ready to deal with a full NBA season this soon. I do think it's possible that he leaves after next season. The Bulls could even keep Thib for another season holding out for Hoiberg after next year. Worst case scenario for us right now is obviously that Fred chooses to leave now, but it would also suck for the Bulls to keep Thib for one more year and let the speculation continue for another whole year. At least we'd get to see the outcome of our likely top-10 team!

Im going to laugh when Fred has a press conference some time and say he was too busy napping and playing flappy bird to deal with all of this.

Just seemed weird, like you were talking out of both sides of your mouth. I'm actually fine with the tweets you are posting, the cryptic posts about "I have inside info!" were silly.

Has anyone in the local media even tried to reach out to Fred. I am sure he won't comment, but I wonder if anyone has attempted. I would think I would have seen at least one, tried to reach Fred but he wasn't available to comment article by Randy Pete.
Probably just common courtesy since he recently had the surgery. Or he could've made a statement to the media that he wouldn't be available for comments on things for a period of time. (For example, I'm pretty sure Micah Byars has commented on scheduling announcements)

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Here's the main reason why I'd put my money on fred leaving. He has commented on the NBA situation at all. If he definitely wanted to coach Iowa State next year he would do what Kevin Ollie did and just publically come out and say "No I will be here again next year".

Of course he's not going to comment on a specific NBA team, but the fact that he hasn't come out and said he's coming back (at least to me) means he's AT LEAST 50/50 gone, and I would say the chances are a lot higher than that.

He has kind of been recovering from heart surgery. It's possible that limits the comments he chooses to make, since he hasn't commented on anything since that.

Edit: I should have just waited. Turns out this page is filled with posters making that point.

I think that's the scary part. The Bulls want him as their #1 candidate. It's close to Iowa, a franchise with ties to him...

It's all down to Hoiberg I think if he wants to go now or wait a while. If I was Fred I would stay to accomplish my goal of bringing a title to Ames.... but then again I might just stand in front of the mirror all day and stare at my dreaminess.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

thats been my problem from the beginning. We are going to hire a first time coach who has tried and failed to get mid major jobs to coach s top 10 team.

Yet hoiberg will tell us he is doing us a favor.
AND, you've been wrong from the beginning on at least this and 2 other sites.

been wrong? I hope I'm wrong but nothing has happened to say I am wrong.

Ive read enough from people with connections to the program that the idea that leaving the new coach a great team is going to be doing us a huge favor. It won't.

I personally think that a deal is already either in the works or has been completed and we'll hear about it soon.

One way or the other, I wish it would be soon. But now it sounds like the Bulls are trying to set up some player/coach-trade deal for Thibodeau to make the financial aspect favorable. That could drag things out. I don't know how long the NBA trade moratorium lasts after the deadline.

Actually almost everything jsb's said, APPEARS to be happening.

Not really proven wrong or right yet, but the smoke seems to be lining up in the direction of what she's been worried about.

Which CF member is going to volunteer to go to the airport to confront Fred when he leaves?

:jimlad:
Pretty sure Mel W. has dibs.

He is going to wait until he gets a huge offer, make ISU pony up, then use this as a recruiting tool:

"hey blue chipper, I gave up x million dollars per year and a gig with the Chicago Freaking Bulls to coach you to a national championship at Iowa State, let's make this thing happen"

Well yeah, bc what she said was destined to happen anyway..
Bulls lost.
Next:
Thibs will probably get fired.
Bulls pursue Fred.

The rest nobody knows.

What happened to the good ol' days where a thread like this would be all of us brotherly Cyclone Fanatics ripping the writer of this article on every social media outlet for being a special kind of dumb to write that Hoiberg coaches for the U of I, and to do so with such erroneous grammar?

The Bulls have long been linked Iowa head coach Fred Hoiberg. However, sources near that situation say Hoiberg, who’s been dealing with heart related issues...

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I REALLY hope I'm wrong but I have a buddy with fairly good connections throughout both basketball programs and he's heard Fred to the Bulls is all but official. Apparently he told the ISU players his intentions to leave last week. TJ was brought in on purpose: to be the interim head coach for one year.

I want to be wrong here because I want CFH to be here forever but if my buddy is saying this I have to believe him because he has no reason to lie to me and he loves ISU basketball just as much as me.

Of course he prefaced everything he told me by saying this is what is the situation right now but as we all know people can change their minds in an instant.

He went in to further detail but I can either explain or not once the news is official. If I give too much detail and then I'm wrong I would really dig my own grave.

actually I've been saying since tj came back that he came back because he thought Fred would leave soon and he'd be a top candidate for the job.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Welp, I haven't weighed in on this topic yet with my worthless 2 cents, but here goes. I think there is two sides to this:

1) It is absolutely clear that the Bulls want to hire Fred and that Fred has expressed interest in listening.

2) It doesn't make any sense to happen this year. I don't see how the Bulls hire someone 1 month past open heart surgery who won't be able to participate fully in draft prep, offseason camps, free agent evaluation, etc. And I don't see how Fred could sign up for a VERY stressful, exhausting job just after that surgery.

My bottom line is, due to the surgery there is almost no way Fred goes to the Bulls this year. After next year? I'd completely believe it. But not this year.
