Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

If the staff and players already know, you don't think something would have leaked yet? And by leaked, I mean multiple sources coming out and saying something. College aged kids have very loose lips.

This is happening. Like happening right now.

i don't even know how you can be so ignorant to what is happening. I mean tibs is leaving Chicago. That's a given.
What a dope. At least you are consistent.

the fans don't need to know. But time is money in a coaching search. We have no time and little money.

Unless the search was over when we brought TJ back.

Gentry would be a solid second choice if Hoiberg is offered the job and passes on it. Gentry is an NBA lifer and he has a reputation as a player's coach.

What sources are you expecting to leak something out right now? Dandy came out and said what he heard and then said multiple people PMed him saying they heard the same thing. The media isn't going to come out and say anything.

Obviously because this has been known for over a year... Tom Thibodeau and the Bulls parting ways is hardly some massive (or recent) revelation. GarPax wanted him gone LAST off season.

but the fans don't need to know a coaching search is going on either. JP can do that entirely behind the scenes (for now) as well - see the Hornecek rumor from last week.

What is stopping JP from making a coaching search? It doesn't need to public for him to pick up his phone

If sobbing uncontrollably, grabbing his ankles and screaming "PLEASE DON'T GO!!!!!!!" counts as confrontation, I'll do it.

I'm sure he's making overtures if he genuinely believes Fred may leave. Look no further than when he hired Fred. Said explicitly he contacted Fred BEFORE gmac left.

If it helps Chris Williams just tweeted that the team has not been told anything. Sounds like this report is at least partially false.

You think the players are going to come out and say their coach is leaving?

You don't think Fred would inform his staff and JP ahead of time? Everyone has known for a while Thibs was gone no matter what happened in the playoffs

No, I don't. Not anything final. There is no way to hammer out the details of a contract when the Bulls don't even know what they are doing with Thibs yet. I'm sure Fred is good friends with the Bulls front office, but he would be stupid to guarantee anything without negotiation, and there is just no way that could have happened yet.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Welp, I haven't weighed in on this topic yet with my worthless 2 cents, but here goes. I think there is two sides to this: 1) It is absolutely clear that the Bulls want to hire Fred and that Fred has expressed interest in listening. 2) It doesn't make any sense to happen this year. I don't see how the Bulls hire someone 1 month past open heart surgery who won't be able to participate fully in draft prep, offseason camps, free agent evaluation, etc. And I don't see how Fred could sign up for a VERY stressful, exhausting job just after that surgery. My bottom line is, due to the surgery there is almost no way Fred goes to the Bulls this year. After next year? I'd completely believe it. But not this year.
Why would he not be able to participate in all that? Draft prep and free agency prep is sitting around watching film and then making phone calls. You can do all that from your couch in your pajamas. And NBA training camps open a few weeks before college practice starts. If he is healthy enough to prepare for the next ISU season then he's healthy enough to prepare for an NBA season. Probably less taxing to get ready for the NBA season with the increased staff available to you.

I would think the players would be pretty ****** off. Fred returns the best team, one of the best in ISU history with a legit shot at a National Title, and he tells them a week ago that he's leaving? If I'm Niang or McKay or Naz or Monte, I'm ******. At that point I wouldn't care who found out.

And oh, btw, we're bringing in a 1 year interim coach.

I mean, why don't you just throw the season away.
