Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

We NEED to buy out Rhoads.

Well then all we need to do is have our great basketball coach leave and no better options than someone who will make $700k. We then either succeed or fail with TJ (and knowing our track record at Iowa State, I think we can say fail) and we start all over again. 5 years---that's all we can manage. At least the last 5 years were great!

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

FWIW first thing morning before this thread was started I heard from someone at work basically the same thing that Dandy said he was told as far as the team being notified. I don't really know the person I heard it from that well so I didn't think about it too much until this thread, could just be a strange coincidence though.

Your coworker is Dandy. Is he always a troll at work, or just this time :)

I tend to agree, but if you hire Otz it will get ugly fast in recruiting, IMO. Not sure he will make a lot of head way until he proves he can coach next year. By then, most decent/realistic HS kids are off the board. We've sort of been flirting with some 5-stars recently that wait until spring, but those aren't realistic for Otz. Most of the kids he'll be recruiting will start committing this summer and fall.

With the way our roster sits, you HAVE to land some good players in this upcoming class, or you're basically burning it down and starting from scratch. Tough task for a new coach.

Hopefully we can land at least one good transfer this year (for 2016), and a couple immediate guys next year, or we're in trouble.

I'm not advocating hiring Otz as the HC on an interim or a permanent basis. I'm advocating hiring a head coach and retaining Otz as an assistant unless said HC wants to go another direction.

Well what's your grand plan if Hoiberg leaves? We have to have a coach.

His grand plan doesn't matter, and isn't affected by big baby meltdowns on internet forums. JP's plan is the only one that matters.

Understood and agreed. Just pointing out how tough of a spot we're in regardless.

Right. And I'm not melting down. I think you confuse a person speculating on what they think will happen and not thinking it is a good idea with melting down.

I think if Fred leaves that TJ will get the job and I think that is a bad idea.

JFC guys, with the way a lot of you act I'm surprised anyone post rumors they've heard. Don't you want that kind of info from here?

This. No reason to attack someone because it isn't what you want to hear

So many things could already be in place and the media hasn't been allowed to make it official yet.

Some of you are in denial that is even a real option.

I may end up being wrong which I am completely fine with but the fact that some of you think the Hoiberg leaving ISU isn't even a possibility are crazy.

If I say something on here and I'm wrong then big whoop. If a guy like CW or Hines tweets or writes something and he's wrong they could potentially lose their job.

Not in denial about anything. I just dont freak out because of an ever changing rumor started on a message board.

One of which the publisher of this site said 100% didn't happen. Fred very well might be coach of the Bulls next year but for him to have informed the team that he is leaving for job that is technically still occupied would be running the risk of cutting the balls off his future employer.

The Bulls want to try and trade Thibs, acquire assets, and not have to pay him $9 million... Fred telling his team hes taking that job would be a sure fire way to make sure that doesn't happen.

Jamie is paid well to deal with tough spots. I can't think of another team hiring an interim coach other than for a HC illness. If you lose a coach you go get your guy. You don't wait a year. If JP hires Otz as an interim HC I've yet to hear a reason that satisfies me. I'm only speaking for me. Jamie may have a brilliant reason that I can latch on to...but I doubt it.

HAHAH!!!

He told you that you were wrong on at least 2 of your points (the interim part as well) and you don't even address it. So administrator Jeremy has shot down 2 of your points,

Also... now your'e claiming the coaches and not players know... but you said nothing about coaches in your first post.

Give it up.

What are you going to do if I end up being right?

All of this, plus Fred would be absolutely stupid to show his cards. He has negotiations of his own to make. So much has to happen before anyone tells anyone else anything for certain.

Good lord, I can't even imagine what this place is going to be like if this drags on for a few weeks.

Ok, I'll say this. Who cares if you are right? Wouldn't you like to be wrong? So who cares what some random poster says about what you said?

Multiple posters have came into this thread and said they've heard what I've heard. Kill me all you want but it's not like I'm making it all up.

You aren't right. your rumor is invalidated by the fact that two key points have already been proven incorrect. That doesn't mean Fred is staying, it just means that you don't know whether Fred is staying or going. That's how rumors work.
