Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

This. Although Miller just signed a long extension but he would be my first choice. Great coach. If JP settles with TJ I'm going to be ******.

Everyone leaves for what they feel is the right opportunity. Just because hes turned down others doesnt mean he turns us down if Fred leaves. JP offers Miller the same contract that Fred has and i dont care what some do but ill up my donor level cause then im not expecting a let down....now if i get one then i can say i was willing to still be excited bout the hire. Not that TJ cant do it if Fred leaves but i just think that we get what we pay for.....

The heart issue is one that needs to be taken into consideration. Obviously Fred knows best, but the NBA is over 2X longer season wise than college and the games are usually much closer. 15 point deficits get erased with a snap of the fingers all the time. IMO I would bet that it's harder with stress.

This pretty much says everything dandy said is now bs. It is not a done deal And they won't engage in talks until it is.

You're going to owe Dandy an apology

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/writer...t-succession-plan-before-letting-thibodeau-go

You read this and you get the feeling we will know within the next day or 2. You get the feeling that he is not ready yet to go to the NBA..

- there is strong doubt among NBA front office sources that he'd be inclined to make the jump.
"He can leave whenever he wants," one front-office source said. "Why now?"

This doesn't make any sense. If the Bulls all ready have another coach in waiting then they lose leverage in negotiating with other teams for Thibs because other teams will know they have to get rid of him. And don't tell me they will move ahead with a hand shake deal with Fred or any other coach. No way. Both the coach and Bulls would need something on paper. Otherwise, what happens if the Bulls don't get what they want? They going to keep Thibs as the highest paid assistant in the NBA? No, they are going to back out on whatever hand shake deal they had.

They'd have leverage between multiple teams wanting Thibs. There's teams that want Thibs as bad as the bulls don't want him.

All they'd really need is a quite verbal from Fred, and a quite verbal for a trade. Do the official paper work at same time.

25 pages of rampant speculation by a group of people who, quite literally, know absolutely nothing about what is going on with this situation....unless, of course, one of you are actually Fred Hoiberg in disguise. In which case....please, please, please, please, PUHHLLEEEEAAASSSEEEE don't go. I just can't quit you, Fred Hoiberg =(

Lets just wait a week and see what happens...ISU basketball will be fine either way, we either keep Fred or JP makes another home run hire. Its win-win.

But do you trust JP to make a home run hire? If Fred leaves, that's definitely a kick to the nuts, but the real painful nut kick will be if JP's hire is underwhelming, partially because our nuts are still sore from the first nut kick.

Sorry, don't buy it. The Bulls greatest leverage is that they just may end up keeping him. If other teams know they are going to drop him no matter what then wait until he is fired and you don't have to give the Bulls anything. Then you're just competing against the other teams that want him as a coach and don't have to worry about giving the Bulls anything. And anyone who makes plans on "verbals" or handshakes is stupid, because you risk getting left with your **** hanging out if things go awry. The Bulls may very well want to have their cake and eat it too, but that doesn't mean it will work out that way.

Well my vote as always, and we all may be wrong what ever side we fall on, is that he stays. Makes zero sense for Fred to leave right now. Zero sense. NBA isn't going away, and unless Chicago was his dream job. ISU is his dream job, NBA is a dream. That can be for anyone. Minnesota, anyone. Consider me shocked if he leaves.

Teams make trades all the time for someone who's getting cut/fired. Sometimes you do that to guarantee you get the guy you want. Compensation is normally a lot lower in this situation. It's whatever side caves first, that's now negotiating works, and why it takes awhile.

Fred can bounce from Sukup and be at the Gilbert gym in 15 minutes to watch the boys play with no traffic. 'Nough said.

"For the NBA, specifically its offseason, rumors drive the discussion. It is fun, probably even important, for fans to do such things to keep their hopes, dreams, and fantasies alive. For Bulls fans, maybe the idea of Fred Hoiberg coming to Chicago to implement a system similar to the one he has in college does that for them. It is their offseason medical marijuana, their drug which keeps their hopes high, while attempting to get over the 2014-’15 season." :spinny:

This would be a disaster. Everyone knows Danny Manning can't win in Hilton Coliseum.

For the win.

JSB, I feel your pain. It will hurt like hell to lose Fred. But you need some perspective. Wasting time and mental energy on something you have absolutely zero control over will make you crazy.

We as fans are powerless in this. He knows what Iowa State did for him. He knows what the reaction will be if he leaves.

If he still goes, then it will be his decision.

I'm 90% sure he's not leaving for several different reasons. Just having surgery, the team that's returning, the way last year ended, not even making the Final Four(or elite 8), not winning the Big12, not landing a major recruit. I think there's tons he wants to achieve... And be can pretty much do all of that next year.

Also might not be popular, but he could be grooming Otz.

So no one wants to read what I'm hearing from someone who I consider knowledgable? Okay, I'll stop posting then.

And other people who claim to have inside sources are saying Fred is staying. So just because you say the person is knowledgeable means nothing. The only one who knows what is going to happen is Fred. The rest is just conjecture even from your "friend".

That may happen with a player who has no say in a trade, but Thibs has the right to turn down any potential trade. He has to sign off on it. Why would you deal with both the Bulls and Thibs when you could just wait for him to be let go and only deal with Thibs if you know he won't be coaching the Bulls next year?

I wouldn't dismiss everyone on here. I spoke to someone this evening who receives a paycheck from ISU athletics that basically repeated what a few other posters have been saying. Clearly there are some in the know that have received as good of information that is out there from good sources, it would seem anyway. Nothing has been etched in stone yet, but coaches are very aware of the situation, and for those begging Fred to stay, you're barking up the wrong Hoiberg tree. Wish him the best, but I think he is gone. I just pray to God that JP's plan is not to hand the keys of a current top 10 program to someone who is completely unproven, that will be a much bigger tragedy than Fred leaving.

Has anyone in the local media even tried to reach out to Fred. I am sure he won't comment, but I wonder if anyone has attempted. I would think I would have seen at least one, tried to reach Fred but he wasn't available to comment article by Randy Pete.

Except Pete's article would be more of a 'Tried to reach Fred, and he didn't respond, so I have no information, but from his window it looked like he was drinking coffee and was holding either a newspaper or an NBA contract, and go Hawks."

That's what I meant Fred is a smart guy, and losing to UAB, probably tells him there are still some things he needs to learn and he has unfinished business

Don't we wish.
