Most likely someone that wants to just use ISU as a stepping stone to a better job. It appears nobody wants to stay at ISU. If Fred Hoiberg doesn't want to stay here, then who else would?

Link to article where Fred said this?

I didn't say that he's ever said that. I was basing this on the assumption that he's leaving for the NBA. If he doesn't leave, then obviously I was wrong in my statement. I thought that was fairly obvious? Guess not.

I guess it depends on what freds goal was when taking the job. If it was just to get us back to the tourney, recreate the magic and make us relevant again then he has done what he set out to do. If it was to give us a final four or national title, he clearly has more to do.

Finally, the whole conversation annoys me because the guy is recovering from open heart surgery. He needs to recover from the surgery: not respond to stupid rumors from fanatics about him thinking about the Bulls job possibility. I wish people would just shut up and stop talking about this but I know no one will thus me putting out my worthless opinion on the situation. So feel free to ignore me and carry on.

It's sad how many would be mad if he left. He's going to the NBA at some point. Next year is likely the most talented team we will have in a long time. Let the new coach build a good prestige in the coaching community after just a year of coaching and whoever it is will still make sure this program doesn't suck.
Fred is to Ames as LeBron was to Cleveland. I would get over it but it would be the biggest blow ever, to think it wouldn't crush the cyclone spirit is naive. Could it be rebuilt? Sure, but it would crush us.

I love Fred and will support him and don't think it is fair to have him carry our cross but right now he is that guy, and am sure that weight is a lot to carry.

Well if he goes to the NBA, then we will all know exactly what the goal was. (getting to the nba)

Why is that sad? A lot of us know what type of year we are setup for next year if he stays. If he leaves that expectation will go down the drain. Then add to it that Fred is the ISU poster boy, if he doesn't want to be at ISU and take them to heights they have never seen well then good luck finding a coach who will be loyal to ISU.

That's why I will be mad.

People need to realize Fred is an NBA guy. He played there for 10 years and worked there for however many years after that.
Obviously he still loves Iowa St, but his aspirations have always, and probably will always, be toward the NBA.

He's not the Coach K, Bob Knight, or Tom Izzo type, and that's fine, except that some people expected that out of him and now they are ****** he'd even consider leaving.

FWIW I also have sources that are saying Fred is all but gone. Mine is a former head coach at ISU.

I agree about the recovering from surgery part. Fred doesn't owe any of us an answer as to what his plans are.

However, I do think Fred owes it to TJ and the potential recruits to let them know what his plans are, if he even has any plans yet? It will hurt recruiting if potential recruits have no idea if Fred will be back.

That's what has me a bit concerned too.... it seems like some of these transfers we've reached out to might know something that we don't, because they are going elsewhere. Harris is going to Auburn. Bielfeldt keeps looking around. There are others too that we've seemingly missed out on as well. So maybe Fred has told them that he doesn't plan on being here? Who knows? Nobody, except for Fred likely.

Is that a Floyd to Bulls joke or have you actually been in touch with one of the former coaches?

I don't know what to believe anymore!

He said head coach at ISU...not head men's basketball ball coach.

It's actually serious. Former ISU head coach, though not in basketball.

Where is the love for ISU if he leave when we are coming in to a season with our highest preseason rank ever. Where is the love when he is personally hindering our ability to improve our roster. If he really loved ISU he would accomplish something here first when the roster is set up to do so.

I get that Fred is an NBA guy, but these jobs open all of the time. 42 coaches have been fired in the last 5 years, only 3 have been in same spot for 5 years.

Is that assuming Thibs is gone? Otherwise haven't Pop, Carlisle, Spoelstra, and Thibs been at their current job for five years? ?

It might be unfair of me, but those are my thoughts as well.

If he leaves, then I feel his goal was to use ISU as a stepping stone to the NBA, and he didn't really have any other goals to achieve at ISU. Obviously he wanted to do well here, but mostly so that NBA teams would come a knockin'.

Or, he's not as competitive as I thought, and he's fine with leaving here before he's achieved his goals. Unless his goal was to get to one Sweet Sixteen, but if that's all his goal was, then he doesn't set his goals very high IMO.

If Fred leaves his guys high and dry right now, then I think it means his own goals of reaching the NBA were the most important to him. If that's the case, then fine. So be it. He'd go down as just another Gene Chizik in the sense that his allegiance to ISU ended as soon as a better gig came calling. Obviously Fred is a million times more loyal to this school, and means WAY more to it's fans than Chizik, but in a sense, that is what it would be saying IMO.
