I think I'm going to sign off until it's done one way or the other. Good lord

Probably should wait for the event you're melting down about to actually happen. Or I guess continue to be an irrational harpy.

So it is better to appear that your are giving up? He isn't doing his job if he lets him walk without trying and should follow him out the door.

No, I'm calling you and anyone else, stupid for thinking that he didn't do what he can.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I think we need two threads.

One where everyone can talk about how great it will be for Iowa State if Hoiberg leaves. And one where everyone will talk about how much the situation sucks.
Nobody is saying it's great for ISU. People are just being realistic and accepting the fact that Fred has always said he wants to go to the NBA. Do I like it? no. Will life go on? yes.

You're just a broken record. Like someone else suggested, maybe go spend some time with family or go for a walk (off a short pier).

Jamie isn't an idiot. He knows that the likelihood of Iowa State basketball maintaining the level of success it has under Hoiberg is tiny (and so does Hoiberg).

But what can you do? He wants to be a coach in the NBA more than he wants to be a coach at Iowa State.

Sometimes it just sucks for Iowa State.

Why not at least try. JP stated that he isn't trying to keep Fred here. Basketball is our best chance as national relevance and he seems to be willing to give up on it. This team goes from top 5 to top 20 when Fred walks out the door. Why does no one seem to care if we have the season that we should have next year?

What I can't seem to make any sense of is the silence from the players. Everyone and their brother is coming out of the woodwork with a source who seems confident Fred is gone, but not a peep from the players? Not even a veiled emotional meltdown hinting to lack of loyalty. There is a lot of smoke, but the basketball squad itself is oddly silent. Why?

But why does he have to go to the NBA this year with the roster we have?

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I have no idea if he is going to stay or go. I do trust the info that cloned has provided and as a poster, he is as reliable as they come. That being said, if Fred goes, I am sending best wishes his way. What we want as fans is great, but it is Fred's life, not ours to impose our wishes on him.
Very similar to a parent wanting to impose dreams on their children, a very unfair thing to do. Fred has been great for ISU and his decision one way or another does not change that fact for me one bit. If I were Fred, I would not leave ISU because I am not a big NBA fan, but that is absolutely ridiculous on my part to even make that statement. Would we want outsiders telling US whether or not WE should stay at our current job versus looking at something else? Hell, that is just crazy, yet, that is what some are expecting.
We will all support ISU (just as we have all done over the years) with or without Fred.
It is Fred's life to live, not how we want him to live.

It's the typical CF nut cup check pre-warning. We all know what's heading our direction and are warned to get them on, yet we're all stupid enough to risk it. Even with it on, I'm pretty sure this one is going to hurt more than just about any other.

Of course life will go on. But it will hurt Iowa State basketball. I'm not focused on this in real life. But I will focus on it on an Iowa State website.

Well, first they actually know Hoiberg so I'm guessing that they will be somewhat happy for him at least in public.

We don't know him, so it is a lot easier to focus on how this will effect what we do know.

In the event Fred leaves, Jamie doesn't want to give the new coach a higher number to start at. Actual $$ > appearance.

I'm not Fred Hoiberg, I can't answer that question. BTW....it actually hasn't happened.

Look....I'm as ****** about the situation we could be in as anyone.

But it is best not to talk about that on here. Everything is fine! Who cares?

Lim not going to get upset at ppl like jsb...one of the main things that I've seen is "Fred always said blah blah blah" and pollard always said Fred was going to blah blah bla" like that somehow makes everything fine. Like pre announcing everything and everyone knowing the score beforehand makes it okay and there shouldn't be any hand wringing over the matter. We're humans when has inevitability ever been a subject that we've handled well?

Because nothing has happened. Players are emotional, regardless of how much they like Fred if he has already told them there would be something from one of them. It's just human nature.

I had a position coach leave that I was very close with in college. It was very emotional since he was leaving for my senior year. This was before twitter, facebook, etc. but I can assure that my parents, sister, teammates, roommates, a couple cousins, etc all got phone calls from me because I needed to vent about how ****** I was at him. I still keep in touch with him and have a great relationship but I was a 21 year old college kid with high emotions at the time. Just like these guys are now.

If Fred has already told the players it would have made it out already. Too much emotion tied up into it for it not to be regardless of their relationship with Fred.
