Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

The Hoiberg Legacy in Ames has a few more chapters to be written. I still can't imagine him leaving without making an NCAA championship run . . . at least to win a Big 12 conference season title. Still expect him to be back.

You really think this is about money?

Some of it has to be. It is not all about glory and tradition and reliving the past. Some is about money. If all money was equal, I think he would stay. He is only 42 and we see 70 year NBA coaches.

This is where I'm torn. I know that he wants to bring a NC to Ames, but I know he also wants to coach in the NBA. I, like basically every other single person outside of the Hoiberg's, have no idea what he's thinking. I hope that we have our answer by the end of the week.

I think you're confused..It's not really about tradition or glory, it's about living out a dream he's had for some time. ISU can have him set for life + what he earns in an NBA job in the future. I think money has to be pretty far down on the list.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

You guys don't get what is being said, this is a self imposed pressure not a media one. And the point was it may literally be killing him when he doesn't meet his own hopes for us. The fact ISU is more than a job to him is the point. It wasn't mine but I agree that it is an added pressure.
Having played in Chicago, he will have the same must win pressure, perhaps unable to meet his own expectations. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The interwebs say Fred made over $10 million as a player. Not too shabby. That doesn't take into account his front office work or the ISU coaching pay.

Happily for Fred he is probably financially secure enough to do what he wants. I would suspect money and financial security is fairly low on his list of considerations

You make it sound like he's chasing after the glory days, which is not the case..He wants to coach at the highest level of basketball and he just so happens to have a relationship and history with a job that is about to open.

The difference is money can be the byproduct of the dream. The money isn't the dream (I'm guessing)

Fred seems to have a love for the game. His salary while playing, coaching, managing, etc is the byproduct of living his passion.

I'd guess building a champion at the world's highest level of competition would motivate a man like Fred more than a paycheck

Since we haven't covered this yet, anyone has any guesses as to what Fred's dreams are? And how much money is in his bank account? and where his family wants to live? And what is the best fit for him once he decides to dump us? And what he's going to do with Doug?

This morning I was trying to name as many great college coaches and pro coaches as I could. I came up with about 15 college coaches and about 3 pro coaches. Maybe that says more about what I follow but i'd guess most of us would have the same outcome.

“It’s my dream job,” Fred Hoiberg said. “There’s something special about Iowa State basketball, especially when you grow up in this town.”

All depends on what Hoiberg and his family decide. The waiting is tough, but I can't blame them for taking some time to think.

http://pippenainteasy.com/2015/05/16/fred-hoiberg-isnt-right-man-for-job-in-chicago/

At least one article that thinks Hoiberg isn't the answer to the Bulls' issues.

I have a lot of problems with some of what's in that article. Especially the talk of Fred's struggle in the post season.

But that tweet about the top priority for the next Bulls coach is managent compliance is scary for anyone who has options IMO.

One of the most interesting takes I have ever heard on the potential for Fred to the NBA was Paul Allen's. He was being interviewed by Ken Miller about whether he would make the jump a few years back. PA said he felt Fred would never jump, and cited some issues he had with management in the T-Wolves organization as souring him to the NBA. I guess there was one guy in particular that Fred had a hard time dealing with, but no name was given. I know this, Fred will never have the level of control he has now in the NBA. If that is important for him, then its a big plus for ISU, and a big negative for the Bulls as their front office seems like a total cluster ****. He may be good friends with some folks over there. I have some really close friends that I wouldn't want to work with in a million years.
