Foolish. Foolish is stating something that is 6 inches smaller over 39 feet is the same as having those 6 inches. Like that Crack, heck it's only 6 inches wide over a long span. It's nothing according to you geniuses.

No offense to HG. I like facts but I read through that and no where did it state that was isu's board or did it list the measurement of the other board. You guys arguing that the stated measurement somehow aren't right and that proves u are right. Shaking my head at the logic in that argument but you can't win arguments with people who never admit they are wrong.

What's funny is some people are so clueless they now are chastising me for complaining that's it is smaller. ( which of course I never did). As a matter of fact I said it didn't matter at all.

But don't let that get in the way of you guys patting yourselves on the back. Keep patting fellas.

Like a have said several times in this thread. I am extremely happy with both boards.

You guys can keep at it. I have better things to do than continue a disagreement where facts mean nothing to your opinions.

This isn't really directed at you, more for clarity about my last post. Those are the specs for the north video screen (they come from cyclones.com as indicated in the url and the copyright at the bottom of 2010). The north board is 36.0 feet high and 79.2 feet wide with an aspect ration of 720x1584 with Daktronics 15HD pixel layout.
http://www.cyclones.com//pdf8/759494.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=10700

The only publicly available specs for the south video screen are that it is "approximately 36 feet high by 79 feet wide and will feature a 15HD pixel layout." From this press release by Daktronics:
http://www.daktronics.com/news/Pages/Iowa-State-Adding-to-Stadium-With-Daktronics.aspx
The summation that the two screens are identical size comes from three things; first, that Jamie has said they are the same size, from communicating with a friend who works at Daktronics that confirmed the two screens will be identical size, and from the logical inference that a video board that is listed as approximately 36' by 79' with the same pixel layout will be identical dimensions to the 36.0' by 79.2' board in the opposite endzone.

If that is true, it makes absolutely zero sense why pollard didn't say they would be the same size in his initial comments about the project or any other comments that I have heard. I have not once heard the phrase same size even though others claim it was said somewhere.

It also makes no sense to put the words similar to the other board on the image of the video board on the project website.

If something is the same size, you don't say similar at any time. I have read and heard the use of the word similar since the outset.

Not to mention, why wouldn't you make that a selling point that it is just as big. That's a very positive thing. The people on this board who don't think the wording of press releases or comments from the AD aren't important truly don't understand advertising.

Again I don't really care if they are different. Not at all. It just makes zero sense to say similar.

I would be interested to hear when pollard said they were the same.

How are they going to get the 3 porto johns along the field out once they are done with the construction? I think it's going to look awful if they have to leave them there during the season.

Yes it is. Does anyone know if the ribbon board is going all the way over?

Yes, it will go all along the bottom edge of the upper deck including the new sections, but will obviously have a break across where there is no upper deck. The brackets were on the new sections during the spring game.

I can only speculate on why someone else has worded something a specific way, but I would guess because two different things are being referenced. Saying that the two video boards are similar is correct because the housings are different sizes (something that has never been disputed in this thread) likely due to one being mounted on top of a new structure and the other having to go over an existing building. The comment I heard, and others as well, is that the video screens are the same size, which is also correct. I tried to make this distinction initially, but it then turned into an argument about if one screen was 6" narrower. It is also possible that when the SEZ website was made and the first comments to the media were made by Jamie about the video boards being similar size, the athletic department was still in negotiations with Daktronics and a finalized set of specs wasn't known.

Just another tidbit for those interested, in the press release the ribbon boards also have Daktronic's 15HD pixel layout. So the south screen, the north screen, and the ribbon boards will all have a similar appearance and clarity, generally speaking.

How good is that compared to other boards etc?

I know the north screen has a pixel pitch (the distance from one LED cluster to another) of 15mm. The smaller the number the closer they are and the closer you can be to the screen and still see the image. 15mm is better than average for college videoboards. As an example the new screens at Texas, Michigan St., and Arizona are all 20mm. The new screens at Texas A&M and Washington are both 13mm. Looking at a list I would say 16mm pixel pitch is about average for the new screens being put across the county in college stadiums.

BTW I went and looked at kstates field. I still much prefer trice and our updates. Their stadium looks tiny on the one side due to just the lower bowl.

Also prefer how trice towers above the ground while theirs sits deep down in the hole.

It will be a very nice stadium for them. I just thought I would comment based on what I have seen.

Ugggggggggggggh. Not this thread too.
