Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

If ISU did not give Fred a chance someone else would have... Steve Kerr had limited to no coaching experience, but managed to land a job. So not buying the we were the only one that would have ever gave him a chance.

Thibs got fired because he and the front office don't see eye to eye. That is common in the NBA, so I would counter by saying you need to find a front office you can work with more than anything. Unless you happen to be GM and coach.

Go into the Bulls situation now vs what Floyd went into is not even remotely close. Jordan did not like ownership and he was bigger than the Bulls organization. When the greatest player on the planet says the coaching hire is a bad one, then you are pretty much screwed. The titles were very very fresh when Floyd took over.

If a guy has location in mind and one of those open up, you do not pass on the job in hopes it will open up again someday, because you have no way of knowing when that will be.

That said, I am pretty confident Gentry will be the next Bulls coach, and the Bulls are working to get some compensation for Thibs, since he is still under contract. Other teams have to decide what they want to give.
That is the hold up. Hoiberg is not going to show his hand, because he wants to coach in the NBA someday, has friends in the Bulls organization and if the Bulls asked him to be quiet till they worked it all out, he is gonna be quiet.

Thibs hair or what he had left was always on fire. He was not that pleasant. Dreamy Fred would be a huge change for Bulls players.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Nothing is happening until the playoffs are over, which I think works in our favor. Now if the Bulls decide they can live without that 9 million they owe Thibs and no compensation from his next club then it's off to the races.
No way they wait till 15 Jun for playoffs to finish.

I posted this thought in the other thread but I think it's on the Bulls end and not on Fred's as why this will take awhile. The Bulls are still on the hook for Thibs buyout if they can him, which would be 4.3 million a year I believe for 2 years (might be one). If the Bulls can offload him AND get compensation for him, that would be the best thing for the Bulls.

New Orleans and Orlando both need a coach and reportedly are trying to give up 2nd round picks for Thibs. Lets say Hoiberg already came out and said he was going to Chicago, that would ruin the leverage that Chicago had. It would explain why Hoiberg won't say anything if he has already took the job, he'd be screwing over his employer.

This article came out 2 hours ago, most of it is well known, but it agrees with me besides that they won't trade Thibs until they find a coach

Re: WHAT DOES THIS TWEET MEAN?

What do you see posting on message boards about tweets or FB updates as? Just curious :wideeyed:

Ha, good question. Posting on a message board would typically be giving input on a topic, although I suppose it's also vying for a response.

The habitual conflict seekers and people personally attacking others...yikes.

Twitter/FB updates that are anecdotal are usually the only ones that make sense (and are worth reading). Bill Murray's twitter is a great example.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

The article quote "Chicago has time to play this out"..... stinks. This could take awhile because each side seems to be holding out for each one's best scenario. Meanwhile, our program is almost being held hostage. I'm going to prepare myself with the assumption that we will have no new 'immediately eligible' players on the roster next year. Not sure a new 'sit-out transfer' will commit either, due to not knowing who their coach will be.

Yes this is a big problem for ISU. Fred has done such a good job at building ISU and if he leaves leaving it in good shape, but this waiting on the NBA thing is never a good deal for the school the coach is leaving.

yeah, if the article is all correct though, then the longer this process draws out, the better chance of Hoiberg staying at Iowa State IMO.

I'm guessing the next step is going to be Orlando and/or New Orleans leaking out other names soon to try to get Chicago to show its' hand a bit. Like you said, Iowa State could be held hostage waiting for Chicago and the other two teams to sort the situation out before moving forward. I personally don't think Hoiberg has decided either way, but if he has decided to go, he'd be told to keep quiet to not ruin the Bulls leverage.

With Hoiberg out until July, there's no reason to rush, which sucks for the Iowa State program in regards to recruiting.

Should I be getting concerned, I have not seen a new CFH to the Bulls thread in nearly 24 hours.

I thought signing day was not until like November.
We inked a top 100 kid just a few short weeks ago.

Did not realize that last 2 weeks of May first week of June were the most critical in hoop recruiting good to know that if we get no verbals during this time the recruiting season is shot. (Even though verbals are non-binding.)
Heck even if Fred stays there will be negative recruiting out there saying he will go to the T-Wolves, in a year or 2.

Oh and if Hoiberg has decided to stay, he probably does not say anything as to compromise the Bulls situation in trying to extract picks/$$ from other NBA teams trying to obtain Thibs service.

A couple things:

1. We signed our first high school recruiting in like 2+ years. Obviously some reasons for that...

2. Why in the world would Freddy care about compromising the Bulls situation!? If he's staying at ISU, it only hurts him to not say anything.

I think the 'Fred has decided to stay at ISU' is the one option you can rule out for right now. If that decision had been made, we would have heard something.
