Money goes where wins and fan support are. CPR was winning and boosting attendance, he gets taken care of. Fred and basketball, and so on. If wrestling was still what it was, their percentage would likely be increased.

losing respect for someone pursuing a lifelong dream? Yeah, it is.

I don't agree, but respect is how you feel about someone. If one held Fred in a very very high regard and one feels slighted by the action it is reasonable to lose a little
respect. My wife said the same thing so did a lot of people. People would still love Fred but he wouldn't be loved the same way. It would crush the collectI've spirit of ames. It will. He knows it too and it's a bad move. If one chooses to lose some respeCT for a guy who are you to tell them how they should feel? People are going to feel hurt and betrayed on a large scale. Fred is Ames, he is ISU more than any single person perhaps in our history; he's the Mayor. Him leaving us will be a blow of the largest proportions. Get ready for this to be a mild reaction, should he leave.

You'd guarantee wrong.

They care now, of course they are winning, pre Cael Sanderson I doubt it. I also remember going to ISU wrestling meets and Hilton would be crazy now its nothing like that.

Of course he is also around 20th in the country. Mayor makes more than Roy Williams for crying out loud. And I appreciate everything Mayor has done at ISU, but he isn't getting Cal/Coach K/Self money without a few regular season conference titles or a Final Four

How about Travis Ford or Lon Kreuger money?

'The Mayor', the legend, would not leave ISU, at least not before winning a national championship. The average individual, a mere mortal, might be lured away for perfectly rational reasons. Does he want to be The Mayor or just Fred Hoiberg?

I'm a petty and spiteful jerk so I hope the bulls suck.
I'll definitely hope they suck. Not because I want Fred to fail but because I want the organization to fail. Taking 2 ISU coaches and I'm supposed to be indifferent? I think not. I already hate the Cubs so what's one more Chicago team?

I suspect CFH would agree with this way of looking at it and understand impact on CycloneNation. Tough choice. Chance to take your shot at becoming an NBA coaching legend or guaranteed status as ISU athletic legend. I don't think that makes him a mere mortal, we find that out 10 years from now when we see how he does in the NBA.

How about Travis Ford or Lon Kreuger money?

Notwithstanding the fact Lon has been to a Final Four, those two only make about 400,000 to 500,000 more per year than Hoiberg. Yet Mayor has a 675,000 max bonus where Ford has zero.

Also, ISU probably got a discount on Mayor because of the low NBA buyout. Again this is evidence that money is not the issue; rather it is the desire to coach in NBA

The sad thing is I really don't think he is going to enjoy coaching NBA players : already guaranteed huge contracts, huge egos, guys not showing up with effort often ( it is 82 gms), not really teaching ( not much time for real practice), brutal media compared to in Iowa......but he won't know until he does it.......maybe the money will make it worthwhile, I just think he will end up looking back at what he had at ISU...
