Thibs won't be gone until Chicago knows they have Fred. Lots of smoke. Hearing lots about a coach/players meeting that happened. Fred's silence is fairly telling.

A trans continental skype coaches/players meeting, I assume

I can understand Fred wanting to keep it quiet if he's decided since there isn't technically a job open yet and the Bulls want something for Thibs. But I sure hope he's told JP and the department is working on replacement strategies. And I'd hope they'd tell Fred that he can't drag this out forever to help the Bulls. If Fred wants to leave, we need to move on quickly for the betterment of the program.

If you read the posts in this thread from Friday, it's clear that the paid AD staff believed Fred was leaving as of Friday afternoon.

And there are some on the AD payroll who can't keep their mouths shut.

If Fred is leaving, why should should ISU AD staff keep their mouths shut?

Hearing that Hoiberg has wanted the Bulls job since he got to ISU and the management and him had this planned for years even down to how the Bulls would lose in the Playoffs. Notice how the Bulls looked like the quit in game 6? That was on purpose because 6 is Fred's favorite number.

Ummm, you really think they are going to ask these guys to change their plans and fly across the country to be given bad news? I'm pretty sure players travel on their own dime as well, although I could be wrong about. Pretty sure summer school starts about now. You believe whatever you want, but don't think it has anything to do with an announcement.

I went thru this with our Div 1 ball program my senior year ( I didn't play, but was student asst ) and we did invite all players back for a team meeting before we officially announced that the coach was moving on, (that is pretty standard practice) and most kids are within driving distance, but if they had a meeting last week, than your call is probably right.....it does seem the team is probably "already in the know"

This, they don't have the cash (heck I don't) to buy a one day prior ticket to get back to Ames for a last minute team meeting. Any travel they are doing was planned.

The players might not have the money, but the athletic department does.

It's not that clear cut.

For the Bulls, I think the order is:

1) Identify their coaching targets - Done (Just Fred)
2) Get a commitment from their target
3) Trade Thibs
4) Announce new coach.

It's been stated on here (I don't know the accuracy), that a trade of Thibs can't be announced until the playoffs are over. If that's the case, then 1-3 could be done and we are just waiting several weeks for #4.

That's my whole point. Nothing is breaking or getting announced today. Or anytime while the Bulls still have a head coach.

For the 50th time, unless a meeting happened on Skype, none of the players are in Ames to have a team meeting. And once he tells the players, the news will leak quickly. Fred isn't telling the players until Thibs gets traded/fired. The Bulls can't make two head coaches at the same time.
