Way up there
The Bulls management isn't exactly the smartest collection of folks ever.

Exhibit A. Mr. Rose... your franchise player likes Thibs and wants him to remain as the head coach. Irritating your franchise player... not the smartest thing to do.

Exhibit B. Thibs has the 2nd highest winning percentage in playoff games in franchise history, he has coached the 2nd most playoff games in franchise history, he has the 2nd highest regular season winning percentage in franchise history, he has the 2nd highest overall (reg season & playoffs) winning percentage in franchise history, and he is 3rd in career wins with the franchise and he has only been in Chicago since 2010. They want to get rid of this guy?

Exhibit C. They have made it crystal clear that they want to get rid of this guy. Everyone knows what they are trying to do so if any NBA franchise wants Thibs they just have to wait the Bulls out since they have already tipped their hand.

Now if I was a coach and I look at what Thibs has done in Chicago considering that his franchise player Rose has only played about 50% of the games because he is constantly injured why would I want to go there? Thibs is easily the 2nd best coach in Bulls history based on his results and they can't wait to get rid of him. How foolish do the Bulls look right now?

B is even more impressive when you think about the guy he's second to...I agree though, idk what the Bulls are thinking. Thibs has overachieved every season in Chicago. I don't get why any coach would want to be put through that, especially when you are still going to be in the same division as Lebron.

Of course you'd be happy if he said that. We'd all be happy if he said that. However, the only logical explanation right now is that Fred hasn't made a decision 100% on whether is is going or staying.

If he knows he is going, he's a **** for being so tight lipped and at least would let things slip out so that the school, players, coaches, etc could start be prepared.

If he knows he is staying, he's a **** for not coming out saying that he is staying.

I don't think Fred is a ****, so the only logical explanation is that he hasn't made a decision yet.

"Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I am leaving to take a job that isn't open yet. KTHNXBI."

Anyone getting involved in the Bulls job knows that Thibs isn't being let go for wins and losses. Clearly Fred is smart enough to know why Thibs is getting shown the door. This Thibs/Bulls drama has been going on for over 2 years now, and both sides have acted like giant babies about it.

I wouldn't take the Bulls job simply because the best player last season may or may not be back (I think Jimmy gets maxed with the Bulls... creating a whole new problem), the old franchise cornerstone seems to be made of balsa wood and has no knees. Noah has one leg and evidently can't make layups. Pau is old. The Bulls are the classic example of a franchise being stuck in "NBA Hell."

I'd honestly be okay if he said "The NBA is my dream and I will be there someday but for now I have goals and dreams I want to accomplish at ISU"

I thought Fred's 'national championship' expectation comments for ISU meant he would be here as the coach when it happened. Until the 1% chance is gone, I'm holding out hope.

It's one thing for a coach to act like a baby. It's an entirely different scenario to see an NBA front office full of executives acting like babies. Fred has worked in an NBA front office, he knows how things work in a professional environment, and the Bulls front office is anything but professional and it certainly isn't a professional environment in Chicago.

This is the one that drives me nuts. I'm just trying to imagine taking any job where it was public knowledge the guy I was replacing, was one of the best at his position, did things for the company that haven't been done in almost 20 years, brought success and passion back to the company, yet management felt they knew better than him how to do his job, so they canned him.

Not to mention, the Chicago sports market is full of dicks, who are all sure they know better than the coach. You think these message boards are bad, it's played out every day on Chicago sports radio. I have posted this before, but I heard on the radio, during the Cavs Bulls series just how crazy this town is.

At the start of the series, everyone was on Thibs' side. Going on and on about how dumb the Bulls would be to get rid of him. Heard this throughout the playoffs. right up until game 6 agains the Cavs. Then all of a sudden they all turned and agreed that if the Bulls lose 3 in a row, Thibs deserves to be gone. He's just not getting the job done.

This town is very similar to Hawkeye fans. Every year their team is the best. Going to the Super Bowl, NBA Championship, World Series (White Sox) etc. Then, when they don't do that, it's alway the coaches fault. I don't know if it's just hockey fans in general, but that seems to be the only team around here with reasonable fans.

Egos are a powerful thing.

'Ego' is the only requirement to destroy any relationship.

Thats the risk the Pelicans would have to take. However, if the Pelicans do call their bluff, they run the risk that the Bulls stand pat, or that the Bulls trade him to another team and the Pelicans don't get their guy.

Or, how about this scenario. Fred is contemplating going to the NBA, but really wants to make a national championship run at Iowa State. Fred tells the Bulls this and the Bulls decide to keep Thibs for one more year knowing that the coach they covet will be around next summer.

If that happens why would Thibs agree to jump back in? He gets 9m for doing nothing for 2 years. Good time to take a year off.

1 - A lot of Iowa students come from Chicago so this shouldn't be a surprise.

2 - The hockey team is the only one in that town that wins.

I would say this though......How many NBA coaching jobs are open that the team is in good shape? Almost all of the time the team sucks. So you walk into a team that sucks. What are you going to do with that? Lose? Yeah.

He could walk into Chicago with a Contender team (if healthy). This is why the Tim Floyd comparison is different. Tim was setup to fail.

Think of it like this. Give Paul Rhoads 8 of Texas 2nd string players. 4 on each side of the ball.
Amazing how talent can make a coach look good.

I do agree on the Chicago fans though. Dang that would be rough. And the media too.

I am not saying GarPax are somehow not to blame (hell Paxson once grabbed Vinny Del Negro by the tie after Vinny came at him looking for a fight). But if management makes requests you don't get to just sit there and publicly give them the proverbial finger (whether they deserve it or not) with your actions.

The Bulls front office hasn't acted professionally for sure but neither has Thibs. I think Fred would be foolish to take the Bulls job but I think it has more to do with the impending implosion of that roster.

Worked out pretty well for Golden St this year.

For those who think we are in a better place now, take a look at wrestling

For the very short term it may seem like we are in a better place now, but I think there is an uncanny resemblance to what may happen with Hoiberg to what did happen with Sanderson. First Cael did fantastic during his 3 or 4 years here all top 5 finishes, so on the outside when he left it looked like the ISU job was setup for the future (granted Cael took a few recruits with him that really hurt). The first year we had KJ we had a loaded senior class and ended up 2nd or 3rd at NCAA's which was awesome. Those seniors graduated and fast forward now we are 4 or 5 years into KJ's tenure and we have yet to register a top 10 finish. So the correlation I make here is that we are very heavy with seniors right now for basketball and if Fred leaves the new coach will undoubtedly do well the first year, but for the following year when we have 6 or 7 open scholarships we could see a drastic decline for the foreseeable future and that is my biggest fear we could go from being the prom queen to Carrie getting blood dumped on us at the prom in a years span. Then again it's just my thoughts....

I don't think the Bulls roster is anything special right now. They couldn't even get past the Cavs who are missing their second best player. Let me find a post a few pages back that had a good summary.

The only thing they are contending for is a chance to play in the Eastern Conference Finals. Chicago media is delusional.
