That's fair...but also more articles telling of his dream to hang a NC banner in hilton. Also this from same article:

If he were to leave to go coach another college, he's got to think about what that means and what that means to all of us. He's an Iowa Stater, he grew up here in Ames and in some ways he'd be tearing at the fabric of the institution."

And I'm definitely disappointed but understand $$ talks and BS walks.

Well my hope is we land a very good coach that has as much or hopefully more success than Hoiberg and someone who wants to be here for the long haul. And then just maybe Hoiberg will be thrown in with the other previous coaches who had some success here, nothing more. Really thats who he is now.

I read the same thing, and I think JP clearly grossly overestimated a few people in this thread.

That's ideal, but as long as ISU is winning, I'm happy. Coaches rarely stick around long anymore, and its not like losing two to the Chicago Bulls puts a negative connotation on the program, rather, positive. Don't forget, Iowa State had three successful coaches in a row with Orr, Floyd and Eustachy.

Salary, exposure, level of play is higher than college, step up professionally, tv ratings are insanely higher, do I need to continue? This is a business decision and Fred is an astute businessman, whether it is basketball or his other business ventures. This is a better position professionally than the job title Bill Self or Roy Williams hold right now.

Not all true, though (some opinion). Salaries are NOT universally higher in the NBA ( though Fred just got a nifty raise of course).

And I still say it's hard to argue any coaching job is clearly better than coaching at Duke, UK, KU, or UNC. Job security is clearly better, pay is comparable (higher in K's case), blue bloods are simply have a greater advantage than any pro team on a league with a salary cap. They go to the Finals and still get 2 lottery picks every year.

If it were a straight business decision he wouldn't reject all other colleges for emotional reasons.

Iowa State is not a destination job, at least not yet. Until it is, I would rather have coaches who believe that their peak is and aspirations are set higher than Iowa State. Maybe we get lucky and hire someone good that comes to ISU thinking of it as a stepping stone, but ends up falling in love and coaches here till they retire. But the important thing is to keep the program moving forward. If that means more coaches that get the attention of the NBA and blue bloods, so be it, it's a sign that they're doing something right.
