I'm just guessing, but isn't it possible that almost 90% of good assistants we could bring on 'might' be looking for head coaching jobs? If you get somebody good, they're probably also head coaching material. Not sure if there are very many Slice or MattA guys out there, so you have to expect hiring guys that will be wanted for other jobs. Agree on the pay to lure good assistants and maybe even a couple years of commitment, but probably easier said than done.

For all the belly-aching over the last couple weeks, this could, I say could, end up working out marvelously!

I'd hate to have him not get the best possible assistants because we wouldn't give him the budget he needs. Now isn't the time to get cheap, he needs a crack staff hitting the recruiting trail in July.

I think it's clear that Leath isn't going to let $100-150k be a hindrance to our MBB program. Pollard has to know how important recruiting is, and what kind of hole we have in our 2016 roster.

We're saving money without Fred, so we need to at least put some of that back into the bench, IMO.

Cornell had a salary of $232,000.
Charlie had a salary of $150,000.
TJ had a salary of $227,000 before he left and was making $218,000 at Washington.

Those are the "July Salary" numbers which are different from the "FY Salary" numbers.

I'd be fine with filling those 3 positions for $800k to $1 million if we can get exactly the right guys.

Hopefully Pres. Leath steps in I don't want CSP out there just hiring his buddies.

You'd be fine with it, but will JP?

Who knows, but I am sure that they had extensive discussions about the money to be put into the basketball program over the last few weeks, and if they were considering spending upwards of $3 million for just a coach, the money is there is they want to use it that way. They've already saved some money for the head coach, so they could potentially do this without changing the overall outlay that they had with Fred's staff.

If you start shelling out big bucks to an assistant coach like Small from Murray State, then you better raise the salaries higher for Mann and TJ if they are retained. No offense but I would be totally PO'd if a new assistant from Murray State got more than me. Talk about Chizik like nepotism.

I agree TJ will probably need a bump if he stays. I frankly don't see any way Mann and TJ stay. One at most.

I guess my question would be what has Mann done for Steve Prohm to prove that he's worth more than he's making? Is it his history of recruiting, or just the fact that he's been here for a while. Prohm knows what Small brings, and maybe he knows he's a stud. He could be head and shoulders better than Mann for all we know.

Fuller or Chew is a totally different ball game as they are well known recruiters similar to TJ. Fuller was making $325k at his previous job, and Chew makes $275k currently. I seriously doubt there is a high likelihood that we can have more than one of these three on staff at the same time: TJ, Chew, Fuller.

I think Mann is gone. Not sure he has been that much of an asset for ISU. TJ is the better recruiter and coach. Besides Morris he hasn't had any big recruits.
I'd be fine with Otz, the Murray State guy plus one more.
It will be interesting to see about the graduate assistants because the one has the ties to Yakwe.

The most likely scenario seems to be:

Small
+
Mann or Otzelberger
+
Chew or Fuller

I think Mann is a little under valued by some, he did quite a bit of game planning and player development under Fred. Plus he's the only known candidate that coached against the Big 12 rosters last year and is the lead recruiter for Miles Bridges.

Bridges isn't leaving Michigan. Especially without Freddy coaching here.

I can't imagine Mann staying. I can see TJ but I don't see it as likely. No way on Mann.

I might be in the minority, but I would rather retain Mann over TJ. For one, TJ will be looking to leave. Secondly, if you've listened to Fred's post game comments over the last two seasons it sounds like Cornell lead a ton of the scouting and game planning. For that reason alone I would like him back. He can also the be the bridge to Prohm that TJ was to Fred

Mann was not being retained even with TJ as HC, he will not be retained with Prohm
