Fwiw Danyell Robinson is a great man. Staff at loyola rave about him. His indian hills connection (former player) cant hurt. No link or anything like that. Just some personal connections and opinions. I look at him like cornell mann 2.0.

I'm sure he is, but last time he was here he recruited 2 guys, both of whom were total lunatics. I'll remain skeptical until proven otherwise there.

I'm confused - I thought Gene-O was the D coordinator at Clemson now, he's on coming back here to coach basketball as an assistant‽ ‽ ‽ :jimlad:

Already feeling a little "good-'ole-boy network" in these hires so far. Remember when Mayor hired people with whom he had not associated previously, but that were great hires nonetheless?

You know the buddy network is how all college and Pro jobs work right? It's all about who you know for the most part. Fred didn't have any coaching experience, but his buddy who is now his boss with the Bulls helped him find a coaching staff. So yeah that's still pretty buddy networkish.

It's also late in the year, so options are limited.

Or not the same thing with his top assistant Jim Boylen. Weird.
Actually, Henry coached with him at Utah and recommended to Fred and we know Fred trusts henry. It is and should be like this n every industry if you have a good known quantity that you know works well with you and fits the team you take that over a risk in someone that may not fit ten times out of ten. If you base hires purely on resume and points you are a crappy executive.

Yes, so clearly this is the ONLY way to hire the right people.

Absolutely correct, college coaching employment is exempt from many public/private sector safeguards, in particular "conflicts of interest" hires or nepotism (i.e. Burnham, Mangino, Ferentz, etc.). That's not to say this doesn't happen behind closed doors with certain businesses, nor am I defending it or saying it's right.

Compare the redneck on the right to your coin at home.

Ehh, don't have the coin, do have some autographed head shots for some reason. He looks really chubby there, couldn't tell it was him. Plus this being a bball thread don't see the point, but it is summer on CF, so why argue with the ********.

Everyone Re Rax! TJ will be on our staff next year. All will be good. Print.

This. TJ is only 37. Dude has plenty of time to go be a mid major HC. Unless SP doesn't want TJ I don't see TJ being anywhere else but here..but I doubt SP doesn't not want TJ but rather a matter of working out the logistics of working together etc..it's almost end of June..not a single mid major HC gig open and not any other P5 asst gigs open either I don't believe.

WTS, a staff of Prohm, Small, TJ, mystery x?, will be a far better recruiting staff than anything we've had in the past 5 years...at least. It's not like Matt A, Henry, and Mann were lighting it up nor was Lutz, Doc, Mann staff either...at least at the HS level. It's like they sat around waiting for the transfer market to open up and waited by the phone to see who called...meanwhile we had a recruiting budget of $1.5 mil so MA could make all those NYC trips back home.

We definitely used the recruiting budget, just probably on the wrong type of recruits. Couple kids named Vaughn and Diallo cost us a lot of money, to not get.

Let's just hope it is more than a closing time hookup.

Given the hole past recruiting has put us in we needed to hit a home run on the assistants IMO. Guys that had ties to specific recruits (like TJ did when McD hired him).
