Where are the transfers?

Jeremy,
What happened to these supposed "secret" transfers that we were going to be picking up late in the process? I figured Kyle Washington was one, but apparently we were never a serious option.

Aside from Fred's first transfer class of White/Allen/Babb/Booker that sat out, I feel this year was right up there in importance, at least if we wanted to sustain success and make the tourney in 2016. We needed to stash a couple quality players so they could be ready for 2016, but it's looking like that won't happen now. And we are likely out of the running for all high-major HS kids we were pursuing, so for 2016 we are left with a few returning role players, and fill in with JUCO's and less recruited HS kids. Maybe get lucky with an immediate transfer.

Not sure if you've heard yet, but Iowa State got a new head coach.

We had a coaching change. If we had transfers lined up, it was probably Matt A and Fred that had them. Obviously when your lead recruiter bolts and the HC is in limbo for 6 weeks, things can change.

There's been a couple recently that have declared (Obekpa comes to mind). I wonder if we have contacted? I follow Rothstein on Twitter and his is constantly talking about transfers still visiting landing spots. Every time I see that, I wonder if we have been trying to get in on some of the F/C guys that are still visiting.

I don't think that was the point of the OP. We were told by the powers that be on this site AFTER MA bolted for St. Johns and Fred was silent about the Bulls rumors that hey........everyone relax, you are going to be pleasantly surprised by some of the recruits that come our way. Well, then it's either one, they knew Fred was leaving and Prohm was going to be hired and get some great recruits to surprise everyone or two...........just like back in the GMAC era, they know nothing.

I think Prohm is going to need to show he can win with this team before people are going to want to join up. We got transfers because of Fred / Matt A... Prohm can continue that, but he needs to build up some currency first.

This. These secret transfers were said to be coming, well after MA had already left. I realize we got a new head coach. It doesn't change the fact that even when Fred was here, we were really NEVER seriously involved with any players who had publicly stated their intention to transfer schools. Plus considering we do have some staff holdovers, makes it less likely that we completely lost any chance landing a player that Fred was previously looking at.

The guy I really wanted this offseason and felt would have been perfect in 2016 was Johnathan Williams III from Mizzou who ended up signing with Gonzaga. Stretch 4, proven scorer. I believe the Big 12 schools restrictions were eventually lifted, so not sure if there was any mutual interest between ISU and Williams....
Also, still not sure why we couldn't have pursued Nigel Williams-Goss. I don't buy the whole argument of TJ not wanting to stab UW in the back. I don't think TJ leaving and NWG leaving were related at all, so why couldn't we go after a transfer on the market? Looks like at least Gonzaga should be good in 2016!

It's time to have faith in the new staff that they will fill the voids for 2016-2017 and the team will be fine.

The thing I find funny is that there were a few highly rated 2016 recruits that took ISU off their lists because Hoiberg left. This has led many to believe we "lost" those recruits. The key word is lists... there was no guarantee that any of those kids would have picked ISU under any circumstances.

The one thing I like... if you look at the ESPN top 100 recruits around 40% of them were kids from the South... Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, etc... Now we have a staff with some ties to the South... that door opening could be a very big thing for ISU.

Looks like the Fred brand name recruited better than our new coach after two weeks.

Need to build the new coach brand name fast.

What's the point of rehashing this? Everyone in the world knew that Fred was considering the Bulls.

Was TJ supposed to say "NWG, I may or may not be the HC two months from now, and I may or may not be on staff if I'm not the HC, but we want you at ISU regardless"?

Recruits aren't stupid. They knew Fred was in the mix for the Bulls and they want to know who their coach is before they commit.

I can't believe this is even a serious question.

We don't know this.

Prohm was hired in mid-June and wrapped up his staff in late June. There weren't any transfers left to get by the time we had a staff in place.

Apples and oranges.

Agreed. The thing that I don't like is that the current team is built around four year guys, Niang, Morris and to a lesser extent Naz, who were good not great recruits but for the last two years we seemed to only target a handful of big time recruits and struck out on all of those. Obviously Fred was terrific for the program but I can't help but feel we could be much better set up for sustained success had he not recruited like someone who knew he wouldn't be here long term his last two seasons here. The transfer market is so much more competitive now with schools like Michigan St, Duke, and Arizona all looking for transfers now too that I don't have a ton of faith in our new staff to land high impact transfers for next season.

The only thing I find difficult to grasp is the owner of this website teased out that we already had unannounced transfers locked up, only for nothing to happen. There has been very little transfer news across the country the last couple weeks, meaning whether we had a coaching change or not, there weren't any players that would be transferring to any school, let alone ISU.

I know "things change rapidly." Just curious what happened, who we supposedly were getting, and would like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

I think those comments were made with the assumption tj was going to get the job. For example, I'm guessing tj would have landed Washington especially considering his rumored staff

I'm pretty sure Jeremy's comments were made with Fred as our HC. Even since the time Fred was still here, haven't been many high level transfers announcing to schools. So were there any in the first place that we were competing for?

Who was TJ's rumored staff?

Cmon man. Those two were the biggest transfers of the season. They would have been tough gets if Fred and Matt A were still around.

And who are these staff holdovers you're talking about? Other than Byers, who's DOBO, no one else is around. Me and you recruited the same amount of transfers as Byers.

I do. Who can sell playing time better than us?
