Where are the transfers?

Cmon man. Those two were the biggest transfers of the season. They would have been tough gets if Fred and Matt A were still around.

And who are these staff holdovers you're talking about? Other than Byers, who's DOBO, no one else is around. Me and you recruited the same amount of transfers as Byers.

I'm not saying at all that we could have gotten Williams or NWG, just speaking in general those two are the ones I wish we could have or would have pursued in any situation.

Staff holdovers would be TJ, Byars, and GA's. That's enough intel that the new HC regime can still take over the recruitment of said "secret" transfers that Jeremy suggested we were pursuing.

I don't want this to come across as bagging on the new staff. I'm not. They've been put in a tough spot to keep the program moving forward for seasons '16 and '17. Since the dust has settled on the coaching change, I'd like to hear from the man who kept on assuring to all that we would get transfers. Simple as that.

Looks like the Fred brand name recruited better than our new coach after two weeks.

Need to build the new coach brand name fast.

What? You're judging Prohm's ability to recruit after a couple weeks? By the time he started it was pretty late to pick up recruits.

I don't think that was the point of the OP. We were told by the powers that be on this site AFTER MA bolted for St. Johns and Fred was silent about the Bulls rumors that hey........everyone relax, you are going to be pleasantly surprised by some of the recruits that come our way. Well, then it's either one, they knew Fred was leaving and Prohm was going to be hired and get some great recruits to surprise everyone or two...........just like back in the GMAC era, they know nothing.

I think that recruit was NN.

The only thing I find difficult to grasp is the owner of this website teased out that we already had unannounced transfers locked up, only for nothing to happen. There has been very little transfer news across the country the last couple weeks, meaning whether we had a coaching change or not, there weren't any players that would be transferring to any school, let alone ISU.

I know "things change rapidly." Just curious what happened, who we supposedly were getting, and would like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Jeremy is not an owner and things changed when Fred left, players wanted to play for Fred not Iowa State unfortunately, I have no doubts Coach Prohm will try to bring in big name transfers but he is going to have to prove it at a high level first.

A couple things...

1 - I did create this site and ran if for many years, but sold it a few years back and thus have absolutely no incentive to generate page views. What I post is out of my love for the Cyclones and the fanatics among us.

2 - I did not say we had secret all star players waiting to sign, I said we were still in with many possible transfers and there was no need to be gloomy about the prospects we were still working on.

3 - That was said before the Bulls stuff heated up and long before a coaching change.

4 - Most of those transfers were scared away once the Bulls stuff heated up. NN and Babb were the two that ended up working out.

While a mix of transfers is nice I'd like to see us start landing some good 3 or 4 year guys from the HS ranks more consistently. Prohm recruited Isaiah Canaan and Cameron Payne to Murray State and both are in the NBA now. Now that he has a Power 5 conference to recruit too I would hope that same type of recruiting that landed those 2 guys works at ISU too. The staff just got assembled and in another week the recruiting evaluation period opens back up where coaches can hit the road again so give it some time. No need in blowing scholarships unless the fit is right.

Now that you've vented, do you feel better?

Demetrius Henry, big man from South Carolina, is still uncommitted as a transfer. Would be a good pickup
Don't confuse a warm body with a good pickup. I am not a big fan of locking up scholarships on mediocre transfers that take away spots from potential recruits. Activity != Success.

Thanks for the reply, Jeremy. So aside from NN and Babb, any other names of players you had heard we were involved with?

There was a handfull of others. Max Beifeldt, Tyler Harris, Chris Bocher, Anton Grady and Leland King are the few that stand out. Sounds like the unknown of who the coach would be was the biggest thing that turned people away.

Way up there
I think Prohm is going to need to show he can win with this team before people are going to want to join up. We got transfers because of Fred / Matt A... Prohm can continue that, but he needs to build up some currency first.

Fred had a ton of transfers before he turned anything around. Royce, Babb, Allen and Booker were on the team during his first season. They had built nothing, Fred had only coached a handful of games...

Big difference is the competition in the transfer market 5 years later.
