It is actually fun to read some of those posts over there. You can here the pissy-ness in their tone through the screen. Lots of upset people who finally have the ability to try and rip on us for once. Can't hate on em for jumping at the only percieved chance they can get.

Man, they are having multiple orgasms on the Iowa boards that we signed this kid (and generally ignoring that we probably have 3 open scholarships and loads more then next yer). Even if we were to never sign a coveted recruit or transfer again, the general reaction says a lot about their jealous rage the past 5 years.
So now they are making fun of us for signing a 6'9" freshman 3 star recruit (per 247 sports)?

Okay, then...

The main thing that worries me about next year's team is the fact that Burton can't play until mid-season. Our lineup will have to do without him in the non-conference and then have to adjust mid year to his addition to the rotation. There goes my dream of seeing Burton posterize Woody...

Way up there
Ernst is easily the most over dissected college basketball recruit of all time. From the looks of this thread, you would think our fans are used to ISU playing a 12 man rotation of McD's All Americans.

Regardless of the merits of Ernst as a recruit, it is clear that Prohm wants to declare that this is his team, so he is acting decisively. Remember that he also already offered the three AAU teammates. And has let it be known that he isn't a fan of the CCL. Wrapping up one of the best in-state recruits sends a message.

Sorry, but there's no message being sent by "wrapping up" a recruit who wasn't offered by UNI or Iowa.

I'm in favor of offering Ernst, given our scholarship and depth situation, but there's no message being sent.

Maybe Dingle will redshirt, he could really benefit from a rs year anyway.

Sure there is. It sends a message that Prohm is going to be more proactive with Iowa players than Hoiberg was. Whether it is true or not is another matter.

No it doesn't. We needed a big body and we could get a commitment from one that happened to be in state, nothing more than that.

I think the message it sends is that ISU Basketball will be a program that runs 1 v 1, 2 v 2, and 5 v 5 drills during practice with no one sitting out. The hidden message though is that the team might scrimmage 5 on 5 even!

How or why would we be worse next year then last year? People literally say that every year and it blows my mind.

Losing the Hogue of two years ago would be a blow, but we already experienced that last year because he just wasn't as good.

BDJ is addition by subtraction. He SHOULD have been a difference maker for the team, but he couldn't get his head on straight.

We lose Hogue, BDJ, Edozie, and Custer. We add Cooke and Burton, along with the development of everyone else returning.

We lost Fred, but we hired another young and upcoming coach who likes to run fast paced like we did. I also think our assistant coaches are an upgrade. Otz is a future HC, and Robinson is known for developing Bigs and improving D. Small is a journey man coach who's worked under several coaches and was a candidate to replace Prohm as HC at Murray State. All are good-great at recruiting.

While there is a lot here I agree with, I think you points are too broad brushed. Hogue's rebounding dipped dramatically last year, but at the same time his 3PT % jumped almost 10%. He was still a critical cog, but the roll he played on the team changed, especially after McKay was inserted in the line-up. His energy, tenacity getting big offensive boards, and defense will be missed.

On BDJ, he was a head scratcher, but there were a few games we would have lost last year without him, or that he changed the flow of when he came in the game. He drove me nuts, and by the end of the season may have been a bigger distraction than value, but don't believe we can't paint his whole season that way.

From a different board...

I can assure you that "soft" had nothing to do with why the IA staff never offered Brady. Fran and staff evaluated Brady very heavily and there was one major factor that led to them deciding to go in a different direction which is the same reason Texas didn't offer right away (prior to the staff changes) but they were very intrigued by his skillset. The Texas asst coach actually said to me, "he is more skilled than half the bigs in the big 12". Brady has improved TREMENDOUSLY in the past 3 years and was always much better in July than April/May you have to understand he has no one to push him in Clinton thus he improves when playing vs kids bigger/stronger/more athletic than him on the AAU/Grassroots circuit. He would always start off slow and finish the grassroots season playing like a hi-major big but the inconsistency scared a lot of bigger schools. He has fell in love with the weight room and gotten much stronger and playing against the talent he will face in practice next year will help him to reach a higher level of consistency.

Let's wish him well as it's not like he spurned Ia for ISU, not sure why people feel like downing this kid makes there day or lives better. He is an IA kid who will work very hard with the opportunity he has been given.

Kid does love the weight room. By 2016-17 he should have a B12 body.

He's got a nice frame. I'm a firm believer that if more post players would hit the weight room and play with a mean streak, their odds of success would increase greatly.

So many college post players seem to want to avoid contact and not put in the work in the weight room and it's their downfall.

I think he should go on a strict 5 pounds of steak and chocolate milk diet.

I view this signing as a potential use of a previously unused scholarship to give the staff a year to work with a player with upside and see up close if increased competition and strength/conditioning staff takes with Ernst.
It is kind of a win-win scenario for both. Brady gets his shot at a BCS program he desired and ISU gets post depth with potential if he is truly recovered from his knee injury. Both parties can reassess the decision after this year for both to realize the ceiling with Prohm giving his honest potential future at ISU after the season at which time Ernst can decide if it is a good fit. This could be one reason he isn't planning red shirting, one emergency post depth for ISU this year and two Brady can see how he compares to B12 players. Good move by the staff of an unused roster space this late in the recruiting period in my opinion.

Baylor usually has a post that understands this. Rico for sure.
