UCONN with Cincinnati would give WVU some comfort. Actually, the more I think about WVU the more I dislike the chose. Not because they are bad people, but because they are so isolated and people worry about that. They'd leave in a minute for the ACC, BIG or SEC if ever asked, I suspect. Passing on Louisville was just dumb.

Not going to happen which is why I'm not worried about WVU leaving. Not good enough academically for Big 10, the ACC sneers whenever someone brings up WVU, and if the SEC really wanted WVU they would have taken them instead of Mizzou - and they sneer at the thought of WVU as well.
The attitude is ridiculous because I love having WVU in the Big 12. Demographically they're a great fit. Unfortunately, geographically they are an outlier, and if we expand again we have to do so with them in mind. But everyone else's attitude is why I'm not worried about them leaving. For WVU, it's either us or the AAC, and most WVU fans with a brain realize they got it good compared to UConn and Cincy.
I'd like BYU and Cinci. I know BYU is a problem for some of the other sports on Sunday, but I honestly don't give a **** about those sports. I think if we do expand, it will be Cinci and UCF
If the Big 12 would expand they would go east, not west. Cinci and UCF in all likelihood.
Pittsburgh and Louisville both would have been great adds the last time around if the Big 12 had any foresight at all. Could have had a 12 team conference all along.
Pittsburgh is ACC now, so unless the ACC GOR go bye bye Pitt is no go. Besides, if ACC GOR is gone, there are better targets available.

I think the article is a good read and accurate analysis where Big12 teams stand if the conference disbands. Potentially with ISU on the outside.
However, I struggle with the assumption that 16 teams is the right number. How are two 8 team divisions in a conference the ideal set-up? Heck look at the Big 10 today? Iowa fans are complaining about their poor home schedule since Mich, OSU, PSU aren't on their schedule. I also see the unbalanced SOS being an issue. If Iowa were to win their division crown this year, I can imagine some upset Wisky and Huskers fans if there is a tie.
IMO an ideal conference would be 11 teams. A schools schedule would include 10 conference games and 2 non-con games. Have six such conference champs receive and automatic play-off bids and then have two at large bids. That would include 66 teams, which means a fewworthy teams would be left out. So it may make more sence to have 6 twelve team conferences and only one non-conference game

So when it comes to Grant of Rights by Big 12 teams, they do not apply and are not going to keep teams in the conference. But the Grant of Rights by other teams to their present conference are binding and would stop any team from being poached by the Big 12.
Do I have that right? Because that is the argument made by many of these bloggers. That the Grant of Rights won't stop any team from leaving, and yet it stops teams from joining the Big 12.
IMO, the whole scenario was played out a few years ago before any Grant of Rights took place. Iowa State is in a far better spot today than we were before. We now have revenue sharing. And a Grant of Rights is in place. Texas and Oklahoma have seen the landscape and know the Pac 12 does not work. From the money, to the time zones, and along with the travel, it is not even a viable alternative. The present model works pretty well. At some point the league will likely expand. But the league should not expand to just expand. The present system has only been in place a couple of years. We need to not over react and foolishly expand.

Even if the Big12 added two schools (BYU, UCONN, Cinci, FL directional etc...) it wouldn't stop OU or others from leaving - if they're going to leave they will leave. The schools that are available aren't big name schools (except BYU) and aren't good enough or bring enough to the table to make OU happy. I'm really so tired of schools being jealous of Texas. Also, is OU that much of a national brand?? Lastly, the article saying ISU's attendance being 3rd in the conference telling more about the conference totally missed that ISU supports its team (even bad teams) and says more about ISU then it does the conference.

Good read. So much for this "iron clad" GOR that so many hang their hats on.
I think we need to listen to OU...and get a conference TV network ASAP.

I would bet money that outside Boren's comment last week, there has been zero discussion among Big 12 members collectively or independently about expanding or leaving the conference.

I am sorry, but this is a stupid statement. Texas and OU are not going to risk leaving 10 years of television rights money. That is over $300 million. Even if they might think they can get out of it, there is still the risk that they won't. It is a huge risk to take. I don't see anyone taking that risk until only a few years are left.
