Is there an interest that you've always sort of latently had, but never pursued and would like to? Is there a class you'd like to take, someone you'd like to shadow?

I was the yearbook editor in high school (NERD), and loved the photography part of it. Although I enjoyed the darkroom a lot and that isn't really a thing anymore, I recently purchased a DSLR and am taking a Beginner's Photography course at Reiman Gardens to learn how to use it on something other than "auto" mode. It's been really fun - I don't know that I'm any good, but I have to choose two of my best photos from this week that display use of lighting, and I'm having the happy problem of not knowing which to choose... So that has to be okay, right?

What are your interests? Will you ever go for them?

Angie, I'm with you on the photography boat, but I haven't taken any classes yet. I follow way more mountain and hiking photographers on Instagram than I I had realized, so this may be something I need to pursue more!

I don't know if this really counts but I really want to learn how to play guitar. Musical things come very easy to me but every time I try to learn I just kinda quit after a week or so. Not really give up, but just don't put an effort to find the time to practice. I can play a lot of chords but can't put them together which apparently is kind of important

It really is interesting how you can make others see what you see, or what you want them to see!

Poker. I love playing it, and I occasionally watch it on TV. Also, gambling and card games in general.

Angie. My wife was in the same boat as you for photography, and she took a few lessons at the D.M. social club. It was pretty reasonably priced and she's pretty decent at it now. The camera is now hardly ever on "auto."

Me, personally, I would like to know more about actual vehicle building. I'm pretty mechanically sound when it comes to a lot of DIY house type stuff, but if I were ever to take on a project car, I wouldn't know what engine goes with what transmission, etc.

It's amazing how much more you can do when you learn about aperture and ISO, etc.!

I would love to even be able to change my own oil.

I'm a greenthumb and have a garden and like to work on my yard and landscaping when I have the time. In the past few years I have really gotten into smoking meats and trying out new ways to BBQ and like to think I have gotten pretty good at it by the comments I get. My wife once asked me if I had any interest in maybe trying to enter some local BBQ competitions but after I told her about the time and money that would involve especially since if you wanted to do competition BBQ right you need a high quality smoker I think it caught her off-guard just how expensive a good smoker really costs compared to the basic one I use in the backyard which is just fine if you are doing BBQ for you and maybe some friends and family once in awhile.

I was a yearbook editor in college and I liked the non-photo taking parts, ha! I liked doing page layout, design - just really enjoyed using InDesign. After our wedding, I designed an album for the parents that I always thought turned out quite nicely. I took a couple marketing/advertising classes at ISU toying with the idea of getting a minor in that area, but couldn't make the other needed classes fit. I'm not great at coming up with a design on my own, but I can pick apart what you put in front of me!

Other creative things like painting, guitar, quilting etc. have always appealed to me but I never got into them. I do cross stitch quite a bit so that satisfies some of that interest.

I too dabble in photography. Took a class through West Des Moines continuing education 5 or 6 years ago and bought a DSLR. For awhile I was pretty into it and submitted some stuff to a few amateur photo contests online. I'd like to try astrophotography at some point but it seems really expensive.

Recently I bought a bunch of tools and started a few woodworking projects. Build a step stool for my little kids to use in the bathroom as a first project and am now building a corner bench for a dining room nook.

I like cross stitch, but don't get as much time to do it as I would like. I want to learn to crochet or knit.

There is a night photography class at Reiman, but I am not sure if that is space or just your regular surroundings.

I'd like to learn crocheting/knitting/quilting as well. I feel like the end projects are more practical/usable, but I don't know if that will happen.

Robots.

I'd like to build or tinker with them, but don't have the time for it.

But seriously I would love to learn more about basketball. Having played it my whole life I have a good base knowledge on it, but I'd like to sit down with Hoiberg, Prohm, Calipari, etc. and just pick their brains. Learn more sets and see how they approach the game and an opponent.

If i could go back I'd pursue a career in coaching.

I sure can! I'd actually really love input. I know flowers are sort of boring, but it's a class at Reiman Gardens, so...:

The homework is essentially to pick your best two photos that are well-composed and display good use of lighting.
