The PCA ball caught at the wall immediately followed by the Happ GIDP (right after JD said it) took the wind out of my sails for tonight. Back at it tomorrow!

Beatdown. Haven't had many like this this season. Hopefully Sox score most of their runs for the series tonight.

I think we got the best out of Flexen. He is quickly regressing to his career average. Send him to Iowa and bring up Hodge.
He would have to be DFA and accept an assignment to go to Iowa as he has no options. He's had a rough July but the results up to that point I would not be shocked if someone used a waiver claim on him as his ERA was just 0.83 on July 5th. Last 3 outings have been brutal but he's also been asked to go 3+ innings and he's been mostly effective in that 1-2 inning role up to that point.

At least Pomeranz struck out 2 of 3 batters in a clean 1 inning outing tonight. Same with him, he is regressing lately but he was at 0.69 ERA on 7/18 so if he is DFA someone is going to claim him. Let's see how the trade deadline plays out. If the Cubs add some bullpen pieces then by all means cut Flexen and Pomeranz. I don't trust Hodge right now and he has to prove he is healthy and can get guys out so there is no harm keeping him in Iowa for a bit if there is a roster crunch in the bullpen.

Greg Soto went to the Mets which is slightly frustrating given the price was very little.
I guess the strategy is let other teams set the market? The asking prices on these trades so far have not been significant so hopefully that means less competition for the bigger names still out there. Cubs have a deep farm system right now so can hopefully use that to their advantage if there is a bidding war for a player they target.

I really like Cease’s potential but I would not trade proven MLB catcher like Amaya for him. I would rather trade Caissie for Cease
I think padres want guys to improve their lineup immediately. I've seen rumors of Suzuki but that won't happen right?

I appreciate his tenure and that he seems to be a fantastic person. And I know there's very little chance he's not the starting LF for the rest of this year and next, but I'm pretty over Ian Happ. Unless he gets hot here soon, he's on pace to have the worst year of his career in slugging % and OPS by a fairly wide margin.
