Thanks, man! I just got a subscription to Photoshop and Lightroom, I'll see if I can figure that out!

In other news, where the hell have you been?!
Spend some time playing around in there prior to looking up tutorials, it will help you figure out how to do all the navigations and selections.

I've been here and there, don't you worry.

I've been working on becoming a better cook and trying new recipes from pinterest.

I would also like to learn out to knit or crochet.

For more outdoorsy stuff, I'd love to be able to get a stand up paddleboard.

I'll do that. I spent MAYBE fifteen minutes last weekend after I got it installed - I need to spend a lot more time than that. I like messing around with stuff and figuring it out on my own, for sure.

I would describe myself as being a self starter where I'm not intimidated to try new things and have developed several hobbies because of this; however, I purchased an old school motorcycle because I love the style more than modern ones but it needs some work so my interest would probably be needing to dive in with taking it apart and getting hands on.

I would also like to know how to weld for the sake of customization down the road should I ever choose to.

I paint, people come into my house and ask where I got such and such picture and I say that I painted it and they just laugh. No one knows. Expedition Kayaking, Overlanding, any adventure travel. Backcountry camping.

Angie. My wife was in the same boat as you for photography, and she took a few lessons at the D.M. social club. It was pretty reasonably priced and she's pretty decent at it now. The camera is now hardly ever on "auto."

Me, personally, I would like to know more about actual vehicle building. I'm pretty mechanically sound when it comes to a lot of DIY house type stuff, but if I were ever to take on a project car, I wouldn't know what engine goes with what transmission, etc.

JP4CY - I was in the same boat as you on the car thing. Several years ago I took the plunge and bought a "roller" 1967 Chevelle to tinker on with virtually no mechanical experience. You just got to take the plunge. With the help of a couple mechanic friends - I installed crate motor and a rebuilt trans. On my own since then, I have installed a 4 wheel power disc brake kit and rebuilt the rear end.

The hardest thing is space in the garage and tools - but most of the expensive specialty tools can be rented. At this point the car is almost mechanically brand new (just have some suspension work to do). Older cars are so mechanically simple and if you get a relatively popular make and model, there are kits for nearly everything (but make sure it is a quality kit).

I recommend taking a lot of pictures while you are taking the motorcycle apart, this will make putting it back together a lot easier.

If you know someone that has a welding setup they could probably teach you the basics in one afternoon.

For the guys that mentioned coaching, you should absolutely look into coaching youth at some level. Rec teams, Pee-Wee, junior high, etc. I spent 6 years coaching junior high football (the seniors on the state runner up Gladbrook-Reinbeck team were my last group of 8th graders) and absolutely loved it. I never played past high school. At the time I started looking into it I was just going to volunteer, but they ended up giving me a paid position so I was making some extra money for 8 weeks of work in the fall as well. Obviously it's more of a commitment as you move up in age, but junior high struck a good balance for me - I was able to move my work hours up to be at practice by 3:30 every day but I was always home by 5:30 and didn't have to watch film or anything. On game nights I wouldn't get home until 8 or 9PM depending on where the game was but in junior high there's only 5 games in a season. Pee-Wee/elementary level is even less commitment, with only a couple practices per week and shorter games on the weekends.

You can absolutely get into coaching as a personal interest without quitting your day job. And it's so rewarding to see the kids learn throughout the season.

I'd love to get into either woodworking or metalworking. I've been playing with the idea of taking some blacksmithing classes. Of course the biggest obstacle is space and money for tools (I really do like parking in my garage...).

Kinda unique and different but I was interested in trying my hand at doing my own bonsai trees, so I looked it up and found out that willow trees are incredibly easy to bonsai. I took some clippings at the beginning of summer and two months later I have four fully rooted willow's that are all doing really well

I need to take time and learn the guitar better. I've got a good ear for music and it's an instrument you can play for many years. I kinda kick myself at the end of every year that I haven't progressed further. Dat free time tho.

I'd also love to pick up Mandarin again. I took a few semesters with my wife and loved the challenge. I once caught myself absentmindedly following a Chinese couple in Costco one Sunday trying to pick up a few words. Hindsight, that was probably REALLY creepy.

I recently starting to write a book aimed at middle school-ers. I've been told to pursue writing by several people for years, so I decided to say '**** it' and start it. It may never get anywhere, but I'm gonna finish it. Whether I can get it to the next stage remains to be seen.

Good luck to everyone in their pursuits!

For me I'm in the photography boat. Have always wanted to learn but just haven't had the time or money or both. Recently I took the reins to teach myself Ruby (programming language) to supplement my JavaScript knowledge.

cant believe I forgot this one. 5 years ago I bought a full size piano keyboard w/out knowing how to play a note. Self taught myself on youtube to where I can play any song by ear well. I have never told anyone outside of music forums ect. The whole goal is to play at my wedding and nobody will have a clue how it happened.

I almost got caught playing in a hotel lobby one day but I quit at the exact right time as everyone came down the escalator, nobody knew it was me.

Angie, if usage of light is the main part, I'd definitely go with 3 and 5.

Thanks, yo! I like those two a lot, too. You're right, usage of light is sort of the primary.

Thank you! When I took that photo, I wasn't sure if anyone else would find it interesting! I liked the tree a lot.

My daughter had to take some black and white shots for her HS photography class. She took one similar to that, that we have hanging in our hallway.

I wish I knew/understood more about cars.

I wish I was more of a handyman.

I've always wanted to be a professional bowler.

For no explainable reason I've become sort of enamored with sailing and sail boats. I literally have never set foot (or butt) on a sail boat in my life. I could learn during winter - in the south - but my other life requirements do not allow at this time. Also would like to do it with someone, as in learn together. So far I've just added a bunch of sail boat decorative items to the condo. I guess that's something.

I tried scuba diving, but could not get the ears to clear so that didn't go far.

Would also like to do sort of a life biography. My Great Aunt wrote a 27 page (typed) biography titled "The Story Of My Life" which outlined some family history and life growing up in rural Iowa in the first half of the last century. Not just because it was MY family, but it was fascinating! The only thing she didn't really touch much on was the changes in technology and transportation as time passed. I would definitely include my recollection of the changes. And with today's technology I could include scanned photos and documents if they were related to the story.

Somewhat related to that is marking/scanning photos for future generations. Nothing sadder than finding photos of people and places with absolutely no idea of who or where they are.

I like the biography idea. I love hearing/reading about my great-grandparents experienced and lived through - the thresher coming through, describing the steps for the Virginia reel, my great-grandma riding her horse in winter to teach are a couple they have written down. I'm sure at the time they wouldn't have thought anyone would possibly be interested in knowing any of that. Same as I feel about my life today. But future generations will likely find it interesting to know about our day to day activities.
