I'd be willing to wing woman him for any cute girl that isn't CG.

I'd just be like "oh my gosh, love your shirt, where did you get it?" & friend the girl, and then be like "hey, you have to meet my amazing friend wdsm!".......except I'm too much of a attention ***** for that.

ZING!

Am I doing this right? I'm a newb.

Not MALE chauvinism...just chauvinism: an unfounded or excessive belief in the superiority of one's own "insert something here...like accents..."

Should have put a smiley on it. Sorry!

No worries, was typing on my phone for that one, so it was shorter and probably more terse sounding than I meant it to be. (the question post)

It's actually not unfounded, though...the 'general american' accent is considered technically the least 'accented' accent...if you will. Other than a few small things, it's pretty true to the way english should be spoken. The practice of dropping 'r's in the english accent and boston/new york accents (pahk the cah in the yahd) was a creation of the english elites around the time of the american revolution, as a means of separating themselves from the rest of the lower classes (thus making them dooshers).

A quick search revealed this article on it, although I'm sure there's more out there, but I wasn't going to waste too much time on it:

Ha, well I think I'm excluded from the ladies club... but Mark has a final 4 ticket give away going on

You aren't missing too much. Last post in there was me imparting my wisdom about sports bras on April 24. If it ever picks up again, Angie needs to send Nickels an invite.

Nah, you're cool...you have a legitimate accent due to natively speaking a different language. Southern/British/Chi-CAH-go/etc. accents are just because people can't talk right.

Don't know about the British, Chicago or New England/New Jersey/New York accents, but as someone who spent her early years in Texas, and still falls into the accent when she's tired or visiting family down there, it's a little "out there" to tell me that I don't have a legitimate accent. Ergo, the chauvinistic comment. Maybe I think YOU talk funny...

You do talk funny. But just because you're old and use old person words.

You might, and that's a perfectly reasonable opinion for you to have, considering your upbringing, but from a technical standpoint, holding that as a conclusion would be unsupported. The english spoken in the general american accent is closest to the way english should be spoken (and this is widely accepted and backed up by historical evidence), and thus, the way I wish my children to speak. Again, it's not chauvinistic, since it's not unfounded. I also didn't intend to imply the other accents were illegitimate, I was trying to convey that GTO has a very specific reason for the way he speaks english, and it's related to the other language he grew up speaking, so it's different (to me) than someone who grew up speaking english just in a different accent.

You're allowed to have a different opinion, that's fine, and you're allowed to speak however you wish...however, don't imply 'unfounded preference' on my part when it's actually founded, just not in a way that you like.

I played bells for my own wedding. ;)

We had a song that I really loved - we called it "Crazy Bells" but the actual title was "Ring to the Lord a New Song". Took every single ringer we had, but I really wanted to use it for our processional. We ended up recording it and playing it back at the wedding. :)

Just realized I said PROcessional...meant REcessional...
