I think the biggest problem with this season is that the setting is too well known to viewers. Corruption in LA? Been there, done that. Chinatown, LA Confidential, Mulholland Falls, Training Day, Dark Blue, etc.

Season 1 gave us a mystical death cult in Louisiana. It's far less trodden territory.

That said, i'm still enjoying season 2. I just understand why some people aren't.

I'll also say that the worst thing that ever happened to True Detective: Season 2 is True Detective: Season 1. It was a very hard act to follow.

I agree with your thoughts. The first season was always going to be nearly impossible to beat, and then to pick a subject like corruption in LA, they weren't going to beat it. That said the characters have been great and the acting has been good, But there is a bit too much going on and some loose plot points. Considering there are two episodes left we are going to have to go a hell of a long way toward getting this wrapped up.

Just to float out into some speculation. You wonder if the team won't be able to find enough to pin it on anyone, and since because of this they take it outside of the law to finish what they started.

Well, how are they going to wrap this up in 90 minutes. I can't see them killing or rounding up all the bad guys and living happily ever after.

One thing that really bothered me about last night's episode was how in the world with tunnels that run all over downtown (as the one guy said) did the big ear'd dude know that Kitsch's character was going to come out of THAT door?

I've made this recommendation before but anyone who liked S1 of True Detective should check out the X-Files stand alone episode "Home" from season 4, episode 2. Those with Amazon Prime could watch it easily.

It's like a 45 minute condensed but similar story, but with some mild humor and less serious style similar to what you find in Breaking Bad. Pretty crazy stuff for network tv from 20 years ago.

This! That bothered me as well. Overall good episode, but that should have been written better, to coincidental for my liking. As for all the crazy plot lines through 6 episodes, it all started coming clear last night. It will be interesting to see how they wrap it up, 90 minutes isn't a very long time. But in my mind last night's episode validated watching the first 6 episodes.

Yeah, I think it has been confusing mostly because there are so many "players/gansters/cops" that are talked about in conversation constantly, but only been on screen a few episodes throughout the season. So putting faces to names it makes alot more sense.
