This is a popular way to discount CJB's performance against Pitt, when he was brought in to start the 2nd half, completed 7 of 8 passes, led Iowa on three second half scoring drives and dug us out of a 10-point deficit in the first half to get the win.

Ahhh Pitt...another in the murderer's row that is the easiest schedule in CFB.

CJB is a poor man's Steele Jantz. Upside and raw talent is there but will probably lose a couple games because of his turnovers and poor decision making

Or ***** Stanzi. Either way works.

Seeing some chatter on Hawkeye Lounge and I thought this would be a good discussion from both sides. Who would you rather have: Beathard or Richardson?

Iowa fans are super confident in Beathard despite him throwing more than 10 passes in a game three times.

17/37 245 1 TD 1 INT @ Purdue W 24-10
13/23 145 2 TD 1 INT vs. TENN L 45-28
15/24 211 1 TD 0 INT vs. Ill St. W 31-14

He has a big arm, but he has looked erratic at times. Why are Iowa fans so confident he's better than Richardson? Kinda bizarre.

Great, they already thought I was Cydkar once, now they are going to think I'm you.

Hard to judge CJ yet. In times he has played, he has made some absolutely fantastic throws, and some absolutely not fantastic throws. And in week 1, we were winning the ground game enough to not need to heave it much. However, in the first quarter and into the second, when it was still a game, he made some pretty good throws. He has a lightning quick release, a big arm, but still needs to be more accurate. Also, in the ISU game, he had a lot of passes, esp. in the late 2nd q, where he was throwing them away, or throwing passes into an area where either the WR was getting it, or no one was getting it. I never really saw him badly miss an open guy. This isnt to say I think hes amazing, but his stats from ISU weren't quite as bad as they look.

I like CJ but the media the last 8 months have been glorifying his bowl appearance, which was actually mop-up duty against Tennessee's 2nd teamers.

The Volunteers 1st team was a collection of athletic fresh/sophs who punked Iowa's veterans

Beathard started the bowl game and was pretty bad throughout.

Richardson has more experience. We've seen better passing out of Sam and also a better running ability. The defense was so horrid though that the offense never stood a chance. If our defense is as good as advertised, Sam will have a chance. I think Sam has a better game than CJB, but I'll take Iowa in a really close game. Just a deeper team.

If Beathard was Iowa State's QB he would be the best option. But at Iowa he has one decent guy to throw to with the best TE out, so it is hard to fully see his potential. And like most people have said his sample size isn't very good at this point to really know what he can do late in close games.

Iowa fans love him because he provides something they haven't had since Stanzi.

If we can't stop the run, beat hard won't need to throw.

Wont disagree with you there. We just got absolutely embarrassed. And, just saying, I havnt seen one person glorify his bowl game appearance. Not one. Other appearances? Maybe, but not that one. Hell, even when Josey Jewell won the D MVP (or something like that) for the most tackles, the looked like he wanted to throw the thing away.

The reasons we as hawk fans have been so excited about him is he's just such a refreshing change of pace from the Rudock saga. If you watched the Mich v Utah game, that was a perfect example of why fans are excited for CJ. Rudock not finding down the field guys, dumping it down low, missing deep passes, STARING DOWN RECEIVERS, ect. Also, and I want to preface this by saying I DO NOT think that Jake was a bad locker room guy, but the guys have rallied around CJ much, much more than they ever did Jake. I think its a personality thing.

Overall, the offense just looks much more different, and efficient, when CJ is in there. With Jake, the offense looked slow, and it looked to play "not to lose". CJ, on the other hand, brings an "attack" mentality that the O desperately needs, and that Jake hardly seemed to ever possess. And those around the program have said that "attack" mentality has really worked its way into other postion groups, and the coaches, too.

Now, the million dollar question- Will it translate into wins? Who knows. Any fan with half a brain knows that there are going to be growing pains, games where he looks lost, ect., but overall, CJ gives us a better chance to win. Honestly, all we have is hope right now, but things are looking up with him.

In general... I will take all 3 years starters over a guy with a handful of starts vs. bad big 10 teams.

What? The Big 10 is tough...OSU, MSU. Those are good teams! OSU won the national title, that makes the whole conference tough.

I'd call it a push. Beathard probably has a higher ceiling but too small a sample size of in game performance to know for sure how good he is. Richardson has shown flashes but he's also been erratic throughout his career and made some really confounding decisions under pressure. If I absolutely had to pick, I guess I'd take Sam just based on Beathard's lack of experience. And also because **** Iowa.

Sam is who he is, Beathard has too small of sample size for me to say he's better than him but that could easily change. Beathard hasn't been very good when he's played a lot

I agree with this.

Sam is Busch Light- you know what you are getting, and it's okay, but you wouldn't post about it on facebook.

Beathard is the mystery foreign beer at the grocery. Might be really awesome, might be terrible. And you won't know for sure until you open it.

I don't know if I buy that. I think both teams are paper thin at some key positions. I think that's what this Saturday probably comes down to - an injury at a position where one team can't afford it. Think Iowa's secondary or ISU's o line. It's a steep drop from the 1s to the 2s at those spots.
