Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

To be fair, Pollard really provided good facts in his radio interview and filled in some gaps.

This is interesting now. We'll see if Fred responds as Jamie indicates will happen.

Jamie's pretty much shooting the article in the face.... Will be interested to see if Fred actually goes public like Pollard is claiming.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

lol, so Hines led the story with a complaint that the AD should have spent thousands of dollars so the players/coaches wouldn't have to kill maybe 3 hours before heading to the airport? And this is going national as the AD made them "sleep in a hotel ballroom"?

I think Hines probably had some legitimate points. But come the **** on. He deserves the bridges he burned on this.

Thats exactly what I said from the beginning.

JP has basically said Fred will clear this up so if Fred doesn't, JP is lying. JP doesn't sound like a guy that is lying...his lies could be verified WAY too easily.

Pollard making strong, strong rebuttals. Sounds like the top sources were people who are no longer there *cough* Cornell Mann & Abdelmassih *cough*

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

JP just said Hines asked him the day he was gonig to publish it. AKA - story had been 99% written already.

Who knows...truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

This is what I said a few pages back. Hines was going for some kind of shock-story for whatever reason. It isn't like he was reporting on Watergate. Typical small-time journalist.

And JP said what to him? Didn't correct any of it?

Apparently Fred told Travis not to write the article.

Was not a fan of that article. No concrete sources, just a lot of people talking from behind smoke and mirrors. Funny to see how quickly this board jumped all over it without a second thought.

I sure hope there is more substance than just this to the story.

Paying rack rate on primo hotel rooms in a primo vacation destination during primo vacation time.... $25k is probably an exageration but it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't much of one. Probably the "suite" is a big chunk of it though.

According to this article, from 2013.....JP was the third highest paid AD in the Big 12.......at slightly more than 250K.

And from others:

The relationship between Fred Hoiberg and Iowa State may have been more tense than thought. http://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2015/9/30/9426965/iowa-state-fred-hoiberg-hotel-contract-cheap …

Thanks for the info, but my point remains, Fred is worth more than 900,000

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

They didn't spend a night in the ball room, the article states that they slept in the ball room for hours (whatever that means) I assume after check-out time and before they were coming back home to avoid being charged for another day of stay, which is not unreasonable at all. We are probably talking about a time frame after 10 or 11 AM check out.

Not sure what to think of the rest of the article. If true, Pollard has some things to work on. Seeing how the above situation was sensationalized by the author, I am having a harder time believing the rest of the article is 100% and not sensationalized.

He is quoting sources. While not unreasonable in any other industry apparently it was perceived to be in this case. Considering the players value to the university paying $2500 should have been absorbed.
