Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I know for a fact that Holberg used the U of Minnesota job as leverage to get a bigger contract in 2013.

Which is fine, he deserved it. And he deserved the second raise too. But he also maybe owed Iowa State a bit more money on the stupid NBA buyout. That NBA buyout was always a big **** you to Iowa State from Fred. The NBA teams would have paid a bigger buyout.

Hines went from Woodward and Bernstein to Murphy Brown in an hour.

All I can do is shake my head, thread is 10/10, would use for a research project on online social hysteria.

I read the first 30 or so responses to the article, and I do not want to click that link. I think it's better for my sanity that I don't even know what it says. I gather from the responses it's depressing enough.

Being a a fan of ISU is never easy.

Is there a TL;DR version of the article, thread, and what would appear to be debunking of said article by JP and Fred?

Was the off the record stuff only Fred telling Travis not to run the story?

I think that's a great question! I have no idea.

The annoying part about this is the utter lack of respect shown by the sources be it Hoiberg or donors or Matt A or Cornell Mann for the current team. They recruited all of these guys. The supposedly like them. But they are trying to cause trouble for them and the current coaching staff.

How soon before this story gets picked up by a national news outlet? (ESPN, FoxSports, etc) I wouldn't think they would, but you never know. That would make this whole situation even uglier.

Edit: Just saw sbnation picked this up already. Embarrassing for our program.

Nice to see the article run at the end of Q3. Great click bait for some online ads revenue by the tribune before the close of the quarter.

As a person that works for hotels, teams wanting late checkouts are great for us, we get a full days rate, but have to pay extra for late housekeeping staff, and then try to sell your room again so we don't look bad on our weekly Star report when the comp set sells out but we don't because a team left late and we couldn't re-sell the rooms.

Once you research the hotel issue and tickets to Hawaii or first round NCAA game, the big arguments are gone and you are left with he said back and forth.

Hope it was worth it for Travis.

Holy crap... Pollard was the 12th highest paid AD in the country WTF
Maybe he should have said AD salaries are pinching the budget at the department wide meeting?

Already happened. So thanks for screwing over Iowa State former Iowa State coaches (and I include everyone on this.)

I am sure there is some truth to some of this. And it probably should come out. But maybe it should come out when Prohm fails. We've got one shot to do some damage and Prohm is starting from a bad position.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I've been all for keeping Jamie for all the upgrades he's brought to Iowa State, but I'm now on the fire Jamie bandwagon.

I'm not ready to pull that trigger just yet but JP is certainly off the pedestal I have had him on. If Prohm gets all sanctimonious and Bibley with his comments after games etc then I will be ****** enough for that.

I'm pretty sure Pollard was only that high for one year when he got a pretty big longevity bonus.

Here's part of a TL;DR
Hines is pretty much insinuating that Hoiberg left because of Pollard. And that Pollard was jealous of Hoiberg.

But why would ex-assistants be bitter towards Pollard? If anything they would be bitter towards Fred

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I think maybe the over-arching issue here is about the relationships that the media has with coaches and the relationships that other in-the-know people have with the coaches and the media.

It is a very incestuous relationship in almost all of the cases and that is a good thing when I am looking for insider information that I have no way of getting on my own. But it's probably not a good thing when it comes to the well being of the school that I support.

It'll be interesting to see how a true outsider like Prohm handles it. It's kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't. But it would be hard to trust anyone around the Iowa State community.

Completely fishing for a story.... How many unnamed sources can u have in an article till the words 'stretch' and 'integrity' come to mind... Lost a lot of respect for Hines today....

I think they took some complaints that Fred did have and ran with them and then started blowing them up even more.
