People are pointing out the obvious part about Thomas (his mental composure) and think it's magically going to be fixed and that he will be fine. Where is this assumption coming from? There are always going to be players that just don't live up to their potentially because they are not mentally composed enough. He has had a couple of really good games but will go back and play average at best the next night out. I hope he has gotten over his confidence problem but until I see it, I don't think he improves at all. In the early games when we play bad teams, it's a good chance to get him off the bench and let him fire up some shots. If he starts knocking them down, maybe he will start to improve but we can't just sit around and let him fire up shot after shot until he finally gets hot. That's just not how the game works. This will be a key season for him but I can't see him beating out another guard who shot 45% from downtown as a freshman unless he stays mentally composed out there and there's no evidence yet to prove he can.

And you are posting your same opinion on Thomas over and over....we got it, you aren't a believer....fine, luckily Prohm and TJ apparently are.....and I hope Cooke is great, but I would bet you never saw him play at OSU and have no idea what kind of player he is outside of quoting his stat line....

I have seen Cooke play a couple of games at Oregon State. My best friend went to Oregon State so he would always make me watch games with him during Cooke's freshman season and I constantly remember being impressed by him. Just because you're in love with Matt Thomas doesn't mean you need to constantly degrade what I say. I never said I wasn't a believer, just that he hasn't done anything yet to make me trust he will be a better player this season. If people are going to keep posting that they think Thomas has magically gained confidence, I'm going to give my opinion back. You keep talking about how you think he's going to be better, but won't ever provide s reason then you slam anyone else for refuting you. My constant argument back is that Cooke has put up better numbers and doesn't let his attitude take him out of games like Thomas does. I do think Thomas can be a good player but he hasn't improved at all since he got here.

do you choose to reads bits and pieces of posts or do you struggle with reading comprehension? To say I have never given a reason as to why Thomas will be better us ridiculous.... I have said multiple times that bringing TJ back ( who brought him to ISU), playing for a new coach where he won't be looking over his shoulder after every mistake, and building on the his success from the UAB game ( as well as several others late last year) will help him turn the corner... And yes, I have a problem with CF members who love to tear down 18-20 year old kids over and over on a forum.....

TJ won't necessarily make Thomas better. I've said it a hundred times that Cooke has put up much better numbers in his one year at OSU versus Thomas has in his two years at ISU. Prohm may not look over his shoulder as much as Fred did, but that doesn't mean it will make Thomas better. Fred continued to give Thomas chances over and over again and he still failed. Do you expect Prohm to be as patient as Fred, who was insanely patient with him? It's fine if that's what you think, but when experts like Terker and numerous others think Cooke is the better option, you're fighting an uphill battle trying to explain why Thomas is better. Cooke is a dribble and shoot guy as well as a catch and shoot guy, but he has a much quicker step than Thomas. While he's not as strong as him, he has a much quicker step and more moves when he drives. Watch some games if you don't believe me. I can respect your opinion, but when all you do is say I'm wrong and be a ***** about it, I'm going to continue to state why most of America agrees that Cooke will likely start over Thomas. If you want to have a civilized discussion, I'm all for it. Hopefully you are right about MT, but two full years of him and a lot of people, including myself, are losing patience with him. I also haven't mentioned once that Cooke plays much better defense as well.
