I think it is possible if Garrett and Brackins have a great inside-out thing going and Lucca is a dead-eye.

I love this quote in the article:

improvement is altogether possible with the addition of guard Lucca Staiger, a 6-foot-5 wing who was declared ineligible this season by the NCAA, which determined the German's participation on a club team in violation of existing rules despite evidence Staiger received no payments.

Is this sleeper in the sense that Snow White was put to sleep until a prince came to save her? Or maybe, sleeper in the sense that The Macho Man Randy Savage just put us in a sleeper hold and we are now out for the count?

Yes, in two ways, either we could be a big surprise with low expectations, or we could do horrible and make you fall asleep by watching our games.

It is amazing what Tim Floyd did after 6 seniors from Hoibergs class departed. With all new guys they won 22 games, including the Big 8 Tournament Title. If these guys can buy into the the system and make it work, there is a chance they could have a good year. Look at the KSU game. Wesley was a non factor, actually he was terrible. It was the other guys that put us in position to win that game.

I think we would have been a sleeper with Wesley. Also, Floyd brought in 4 juco guys who were ready to contribute right away that season.

I think the one major thing we have in our favor is college basketball reinvents itself every year. More so than any other sport, college basketball can be completely different from year to year. Our team will be different next year. Coaching changes, and player changes will make our conference very different next year. Even rules changes will make the sport itself different next year. With so many variables, if a team can come together well, anything is possible.

"Ooohhhhh, yyeeeeeaaaahhhhh....."

Really, I don't think we're out at all. I'm still guessing that this bonds the team, and we sneak up on some folks.

This really doesn't suprise me, we should still be better next year than we were this year. Wesley was a non-factor for much of the season as it was.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming season.

You must also must factor in the loss of Rashon our true inspirational leader, Jiri our European, Brock the shooter, CoryJ our Minnesotan who was berated by some but underrated in my opinion. New additions should about equal the losses.

Looks to me like those that remain on our roster from last year's team and those that are coming in new have a great deal of opportunity...should they have the ability and should they choose to sieze it.

I said before I thought we were NCAA bound next year... but now I'm not so sure with WJ gone. The chance is still there, and everything will have to fall into place just right (i.e. Brackins becoming a consistent inside threat, Lucca living up to the hype, DG continuing his momentum that he was quickly gaining by the end of last season)

Just wait and see. I wouldn't be surprised if we find ourselves following both major sports' seasons into December this year.

I am going to be the downer (realist) for everyone. ISU was not going to sniff the NCAA next season WITH WJ, now without him I hear people talking about getting into the NCAA tourney? Either you all have such faith because of the kool-aid or everyone thinks all these guys that have never played division 1 basketball before are going to be world beaters. Please everyone temper your expectations, you will be the ones on this board next season asking for ADJP and McDermott to be fired.

Um no. I am not one of those folks who calls for coaches heads. I feel its ok to have expectations. Whether they are met or not really doesnt effect me past a day, before Im ready for the next game already. I think we arent going to be as bad some think. Wesley is not the team no matter what some may say. His departure gives others a chance to step up and test what they are made of. For all we know..Lucca could be a rebounding monster. Players can really surprise you when it comes to doing something outside of their role on the team..

I don't expect us to make a run at the NCAA, but if the team can pull something together a NIT bid is very possible. I think this is mainly because the kids coming in the last two classes have been proven at the high school level and know what it takes to get where they want to be. Look at this incoming class, all of the players, at least the ones out of high school, made it to their state tournament and did some damage in it. I'm not saying we will be good this year, but in the 09-10 season teams are gonna have to watch out for us!
