Offense - Let's buck the Big XII trend and slow it down a bit. We can't get the athletes to properly run the spread offense, at least not better than the conference blue bloods. The best way to keep them from scoring 1 gazillion points is to keep them off the field. The Big XII was terrible last year in bowls against teams that didn't run the spread.

This.

Slow the game down, limit turnovers, play smarter, keep the other team off the field, be disciplined, successfully run the ball, play-action pass, develop players, retain players.....pretty much do everything that Kansas State and Iowa do.

We can make fun of Kirk all we want, but there is a reason there are so many Iowa players in the NFL and it is not because they get 5 star kids in all the time. They are very disciplined, well-coached, and develop/improve over their time there.

Defensively, if we run a 3-4, we MUST blitz every play from somewhere. We have to get pressure on the QB or we will continue to get scored on at will. Running 3 rushers, without sending additional guys with different looks allows the QB to run around, make a sandwich, take a shower, go on a date, return and find an open receiver in the end zone. It looks completely silly. Our defense looked completely foolish on several occassions. I could just see Coach Gosling saying, "Oh, look at the cute little guys trying to tackle our QB. That's so sweet. Let me snap a picture of those cuties." What a joke.

It just feels we try to be way too cute with our offense. When the players are world-beaters and better athletes, it's easy to get all complicated and crazy and confuse the hell out of the defense with speed and quickness. When the players are ours, can't we focus on keeping the passing game simple and focus on executing the basics? Alan Lazard should be able to run any route and beat man coverage or a zone due to his size and talent. But we have 75 receivers running wild all over the damn place and Sam acts like he's color blind and can't tell which guys are receivers and which are defensive backs.

The State of Hockey
I want a young guy.
I want him to really try to sell Iowa State to recruits.
I want him to run an offense like KSU and slow everything down.
I want them to recruit JUCO.
I want him to get us new uniforms.

i don't mind if he uses Iowa State as a stepping stone, I just want him to put us in the right track and give us the tools to be a bowl team.

A coach that can pull great recruits out of thin air. Let's face it, with threads like this he will not inherit any recruits that read Cyclone Fanatic. I cannot understand why some fans are so bent on dumping on their favorite football program.

Threads like these are good, they show that the fans still care. It would be scary if we didn't have these types of threads after the last 3 years and the descent of our program under CPR. If JP hangs on to CPR for another year or two, these threads will go away because fans will stop caring. Football season will just be "that thing we have to get through before basketball season."
