I was actually talking to a player that graduated last year that is from Texas at the UNI game as we were seeing Texas getting their butt kicked and I asked him what the deal was with why they suck so bad . And he said that Strong is so strict with the players that no one wants to go and play for him and a lot of guys he knows there are very ready to transfer out at the end of the year.

Way up there
The Strong hire was one of the worst hires in all of college football...all time. He rode Teddy Bridgewater to a new gig.

I am sorry, but if you had CPR/Mangino/Wally etc take over Texas Football they would win at minimum 7 games.
Texas has more talent (while young) on their 2nd team that most P5 teams have total. That is why teams like Auburn, Texas, Nebraska, Tennessee etc should be ashamed of themselves.
If a guy can't win with 10 times more talent isn't going to win at ISU fyi...and don't give me the "they are young" thing.
Allen Lazard played as Fresh and played well. Imagine if we landed 14 of him last year? (obviously different spots)
We would be fine. We would be young, but we would have talent all over the place.

2015 Recruiting:
Tex: 9

2014 Recruiting:
Tex: 16

2013 Recruiting:
Tex: 17

ISU's best class since then has been 58th.
For reference...Iowa's has been about the same as ours.

We need a gimic or go the Big Ten Route and ugly up the game with defense and O/D lines.
Control the clock and aim for .500 football.

Strong isn't going to be fired after this season. I still expect 4 more wins out of them. Plus beating OU for him was a big help.

That's too bad. They are too used to no discipline. Seeing the OU game though, there sure were a lot of players that looked happy to play for him.

How about a 3-4 defense with 12 yard cushions.

A lot of it is a cultural shift that he's pushing that'll flush itself out after this year. But at the same time, if he's seen as being a no-fun coach, and you have Sumlin and his #Swagcopter down the road at A&M that could be a big problem for Texas recruiting.

I wouldn't want him. If you can't win at Texas, you can't win at Iowa State.

Texas is probably going to end up going bowling this year, at least is going to win 5 games. And they're doing it with a huge number of true and redshirt freshmen that are going to be salty the next few years. Strong is going to win at Texas a whole lot. He probably wasn't the best hire they could have made and might not end up being the right fit long term - I think he'd fit much better at a second tier job. But he's going to win just fine.

I'm going to withhold judgment until Mark Charter can weigh in. Is he a liar? A control freak? Does he go home after just one beer?

Strong's 2015 recruiting class was ranked pretty highly (anywhere from #7 to #12 depending on where you look). That seems to be in disagreement with the assertion that no one wants to go and play for him. We'll see how his 2016 class turns out.

And a number of upper classmen at UT have been relegated to the bench, so it's not surprising that there are going to be some transfers from UT.

Lamar Odom has more of a chance of coaching at Iowa State than Charley Strong does.
