Feels like a desperation move by Rhoads to show JP he was willing to make drastic changes to right the ship. Interesting that Wally's job is safe, even though offense and defense have been equally inconsistent.

I think this shows how dysfunctional Rhoads has been on the offensive side of the ball. Same thing happened to Herman too if I remember, the two didn't get along.

Imo reaffirms why it's best your head coach has his expertise on the offense.

Hopefully this turns out to be a Dolphins/Philbin situation. Where the pnts per game skyrocket by 20 points after the change.

How much of a distraction is this for the players? We have a winnable game Saturday. Or, at least it should be

I think this totally makes sense. I think MM kept Sam in because he thought it gave him a better passing game. As a defensive minded coach I would think CPR would favor a strong running game.

This is what the death throes of a soon-to-be-canned coaching staff looks like. Desperate times call for stupid measures.
I bet Mangino told him to **** off and quit.

As opposed to letting the players run wild?

Chances are Rhoads and Mangino had this out and there was damage control to be done. Rhoads probably didnt have a chance to say anything to the players. My guess is this wasnt done with ease and amicability.

That's not how I read it at all. I read it that Mangino stood up to Paul and insisted on doing it his way. This isn't a performance on the field thing, this is a coaches getting ****** at each other thing.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Rhoads was asked about a play call to not go under center at the one earlier this year and he said that wasn't going to happen any more. He was obviously ticked about it. And a few games later the same thing happened.

2. Rhoads seems determined to go out his own way. That's his right as the head coach.

Seriously Mangino has had complete control of the offense and we suck, I know the CPR hate on this board is crazy but this is a good move IMO. Gotta tell the players first though. The whole six straight passes against Tech when all we had to do was run up the middle, was evident enough that Mangino was willing to run the ball.

Re: Mangino Out as OC

Yippers. Do we bring back the mess? So did Mark want SR to start?
I think this has been coming since the iowa game. Rhoads made the comment about Sturdy screaming to get on th eball after the Lazrd cacth ruled a first down before the review. when asked why Lanning didn't get more snaps against TCU, he stated that was on the offensive staff.

I think anyone paying attention could see CPR wanted more Lanning to play and Mangino was hindering that.

Some people on the board will have a hard time...they complain CPR meddles too much in the offensive but they also want Lanning.

Re: Mangino Out as OC

I wonder if Mangino didn't want to go with Lanning, or if it has something to do with Mangino never running the ball until our 10th possession of 3 and out (maybe a little hyberbole there).

I reallllllly doubt that. Mark has been involved with highly successful offenses at K-State, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Not all of those were 5-wide passing attacks either.

We've seen 7 years of ******** offense with Paul controlling the program. Mangino knows what he's doing on that side of the ball.
