The staff the last few years has not done well with developing talent as well as recruiting and maintaining quality coaching talent.

This scenario just plays right in to the failures of this football leadership that have been ongoing. This program needs to be run like a business. No one would run a business this way.....

It actually makes the most sense that it is true. Rhoads covering for his OC that wants to continue with Sam after the TCU game. Rhoads finally tells Mangino to start Lanning in the second half. Lanning does well. Rhoads wants to go with him moving forward, Mangino doesn't.

can you give one instance, ever in his tenure, that he covered for anyone? Didn't he just throw Mangino under the bus a week ago today?

Or CPR lost faith in mangino, if he was (and he was) wrong about sticking with Sam, maybe he's not the Mangenius of the past. There is really no excuse as to why Lanning hasn't played more this year, even if he never started, he made positive plays nearly every time he was on the field. Mangino should have been busting his butt to get JL ready to take more snaps, even if just in package situational subs.

I, for one, am OUTRAGED that Coach Rhoads didn't notify players by hand-deliving personalized, written notes to each player at their home along with one of those edible arrangements.

This move happened too late but I agree, going back to KU, Mangino had an arrogance about him. Until now it seemed CPR had stayed out of way and let him run the offense. The recent QB stuff must have finally pushed it over the edge. If MM was the guy sticking with Sam, this seems like the appropriate move. He clearly dropped the ball, potentially costing CPR his job. Makes sense why CPR was as confused as the rest of us as to why Lanning didn't play the last 3 qtrs. against TCU.

Agreed. But Rhoads made the decision to hire Mangino (I assume) so its on him for it not working out. But if we somehow light the world on fire for the next 5 weeks, it will be awfully frustrating to know we could have seen it all season.

I still think Rhoads is fired at the end of the year but Mangino certainly didn't do him any favors.

First CF, props for hitting 13 pages in 20 minutes. THat's impressive!

Second, CPR will walk in and tell the players we're getting new uniform combos for the rest of the season. Then he'll tell them that the Mangina is gone. It's like when mom and dad get divorced. The kids will be happy it happened!

Which part of that tweet expressed dissatisfaction?

Maybe it was a happy tweet. I don't know. I just know most people would have wanted to find out a different way. I'm not saying there was a right way to do this, but I personally would have liked to have seen it handled differently if they had any opportunity to do so, which to some extent they did.

After TCU, Rhoads could have said "Ask Mangino why Lanning didn't play more" instead he said "it's something we'll look at tomorrow". I'd guess Rhoads made the decision to go with Lanning and Mangino didn't like it.

I will say a few things and then walk away before being accused of ****...

Verified facts (higher than Hines threshold:wink:):

1 - MM and CPR haven't gotten along almost since day 1, that hasn't been a secret to anybody. CPR has tried to have a lot more control (and has had it) than MM felt necessary, and MM was far less eager to try a slower offense than CPR wanted.

2 - MM hasn't made any friends within the AD, he's been on an island by himself to some degree. Some of that is just his personality, but some of it has been by design by both sides.

3 - The Sam vs Lanning issue will end up being used as the excuse by many as to why we haven't succeeded this year and why MM is out, but that is around 1% of it, if that. CPR has no ability to wash his hands of Lanning not starting until now as he has been the biggest Sam supporter all along.

4 - There is a very clear effort by pro-CPR supporters (including the AD's office) to lay the blame on MM for the last 2 years and to position CPR for next year. The bar will be lowered, the blame will be deflected, and they will assume all will be forgiven if we win another game down the stretch.

5 - CPR told the press before the players of MM's departure.

My personal opinion:

Every effort needs to be given to reject the narrative you hear over the next few days or you will absolutely be guaranteed 1-2 more years of CPR being "safe". Jamie wants to keep him and they will say and do a lot of things to keep the focus on topics other than the W/L column.

If you think MM has been responsible for Sam starting instead of Lanning, for the team never coming out with fire, for us never making adjustments at halftime, for the lack of disciplined football, etc - then not only are you mistaken, you have given JP a perfectly good reason for why CPR comes back next year.

Awesome. "De-living". It'd be like Walking Dead zombies handing out post cards from CPR.

lol did you forget someone asked why they didn't run the ball more and he basically told them to ask Mangino?

Ok I don't get individuals on this site. Everyone has complained about Mangino and his play calling, and wanting Sturdy calling the plays. Now that we have this, everyone is jumping on CPR. Can we atleast wait to see what will happen first before we even jump on this change?

Ya, I have not been happy with the play calling all year. Same old crap, throwing WR screens into press coverage, 8 yard sideline patterns on 3rd and 11, etc. The second half of the Baylor game was the first time I thought that the offense actually attacked the areas that the defense was soft on.

Certainly not a Rhoads apologist here, but I've heard rumors within the program that some of the personal issues have come about because of MM's percieved lack of professionalism. Like Mangino showing up 45 mins. late on gameday to the coaches meetings. Story goes that Rhoads laid into him in front of everyone and Mangino came back at CPR with a shot at his record. May not be all true but take all that fwiw. What I have heard that is more than just hearsay is that Mangino is the one who wanted to keep Richardson in the last few weeks, which is what many others have been saying. Paul has said since MM got here that he would have complete control of the offense, and Mangino wants to run a spread attack using short quick passes. Sturdy and Rhoads realize that the only thing this offense does well is run the ball, and Lanning makes them more productive doing that. I was surprised to hear that Rhoads supposedly wants a run heavy attack with more throws downfield, which surprises me since we haven't really seen that under him. Either way, I think it's also a sign that CPR AND Mangino both know that they'll both be out of a job by year's end without a major change, and one or both decided that it would happen their way or the highway. So if Rhoads gets fired, he's going to go out playing his QB, and running an offense he thinks is better this year, or Mangino decided if this guy is gonna meddle in my system then I'm gonna leave since I'll be gone at the end of the year anyway.

This is just a last ditch effort by Rhoads to buy one more season. Have we ever had a good offense while Rhoads was the Head Coach? Regardless of who the offensive coordinator has been, Rhoads is still ultimately responsible for how poorly we've played on offense over the years.

If we don't win at least 3 more games this year, Rhoads should be fired.

Bundrage is a stud. Wesley can make plays. Montgomery can be a load. Daley is servicable. The wide receivers are excellent. the qb totally could not thow. We have studs who have a hard time catching the ball two feet in their back

Our opponents have stud WRs. Our WRs lack. They are good in some areas not good in others.
