All the people making comments about "throwing Mangino under the bus" need to think it through.

For me, having your 4th coordinator in 7 years is enough for me to want CPR gone. You cant do that and expect to be able to have a consistent offense.

The only way I even entertain CPR being the coach here next year is if he wins 4 of his last 5. No other way.

I don't see how he could be fired in that case. If it gets turned around and we still made a bowl game this year, I think you'd have to let him stay.

As far as the offensive coordinators, we have had a consistent offense, just not in the way you'd want.

Feels like a desperation move by Rhoads to show JP he was willing to make drastic changes to right the ship. Interesting that Wally's job is safe, even though offense and defense have been equally inconsistent.

The word inconsistent seems...generous.

Well I'm assuming it just happened this morning and took him by surprise. So assuming that and knowing that he has a press conference scheduled later today I think it's fair that he should expect to be asked about the direction of the offense (even if the news hadn't leaked by then) so I'd have done the following.

1) postpone the press conference until after meeting with the team so he could speak with the players. Obviously this would raise a red flag to the media members who usually cover this and the cat would be out of the bag if it hadn't been previously
So you would have postponed the press conference until after practice? Getting the team together wouldn't be very feasible until practice, especially on such late notice. The red flag would have gone up, media would have dug deeper and figured out something was going on with MM. This would have been leaked, and the team could have seen rumors of this on twitter.

2) send out a text or email to players telling them the news and telling them that they'd answer any questions when they got together later in the day.
Texts and emails can be forwarded, interpreted wrong, etc..just asking for trouble IMO.

Ideally it would have been best to tell them first, but the logistics of making that happen without this blowing up are really tough, IMO.

I will say a few things and then walk away before being accused of ****...

Verified facts (higher than Hines threshold:wink:):

1 - MM and CPR haven't gotten along almost since day 1, that hasn't been a secret to anybody. CPR has tried to have a lot more control (and has had it) than MM felt necessary, and MM was far less eager to try a slower offense than CPR wanted.

2 - MM hasn't made any friends within the AD, he's been on an island by himself to some degree. Some of that is just his personality, but some of it has been by design by both sides.

3 - The Sam vs Lanning issue will end up being used as the excuse by many as to why we haven't succeeded this year and why MM is out, but that is around 1% of it, if that. CPR has no ability to wash his hands of Lanning not starting until now as he has been the biggest Sam supporter all along.

4 - There is a very clear effort by pro-CPR supporters (including the AD's office) to lay the blame on MM for the last 2 years and to position CPR for next year. The bar will be lowered, the blame will be deflected, and they will assume all will be forgiven if we win another game down the stretch.

5 - CPR told the press before the players of MM's departure.

My personal opinion:

Every effort needs to be given to reject the narrative you hear over the next few days or you will absolutely be guaranteed 1-2 more years of CPR being "safe". Jamie wants to keep him and they will say and do a lot of things to keep the focus on topics other than the W/L column.

If you think MM has been responsible for Sam starting instead of Lanning, for the team never coming out with fire, for us never making adjustments at halftime, for the lack of disciplined football, etc - then not only are you mistaken, you have given JP a perfectly good reason for why CPR comes back next year.

I really want the sources for the Hines story to come out, it would be great. Pollard is a problem, I am sure of it right now.
If they are wrangling to get Rhoads another year, wow. STarta fire Pollard website.

I might actually go to the game now this weekend. I feel like it's going to be a good night.
Yeah, this change is going to pull the team further together and push the progress even further, this plus the bulletin board material that Texas DL through at us should be enough to end homecoming with a W..... We are due against Texas after the last 2 years.

FFS, please don't. Leave that **** in the 90's and early 2000's where it belongs.

And what is your position with the football program or is this just more rumor that seems to be running high right now?

It seems that there are many people "in the know" on here that are giving conflicting reports.

I will say my information comes from someone(s) inside the Bergstrom that I have known since my playing days.So people can take it or leave it, but I have no reason to question them.

Ok I don't get individuals on this site. Everyone has complained about Mangino and his play calling, and wanting Sturdy calling the plays. Now that we have this, everyone is jumping on CPR. Can we atleast wait to see what will happen first before we even jump on this change?

Short of firing Rhoads and JP, and then hiring Chip Kelly as the new head coach, I don't think anything would make people on this site happy.

Then why was MM hired to begin with? I would assume Paul made the decision to hire him?

Was MM hired as a desperation move...and now given the boot also as a desperation move?

4 OC in 7 seasons. It's obvious there is a problem with the program's leadership. I hope PR can right the ship, but little gives me hope.

This university deserves a quality program. For the sake of the GOR we MUST have a quality program. I'm afraid more dark days are ahead
