Snapping necks for some live EFX...

With Baylor set to face the meat of their schedule, I don't feel like they are going to navigate through it unscathed if Russell is out for the duration.

But....no one expected OSU to roll to a championship with a 3rd string QB.

Ohio State had a pretty salty defense as well, that always helps.

The hit on Russell looked more like a concussion.

Now. when the 400 pound guy landed on Pierre Aka, that looked like a broken neck or collarbone.

Baylor's QB is a plug and play position. I don't think the drop off to the next guy will be that significant. Nick Florence put up huge numbers there and he was a very average quarterback.

They'll still have a great running game and decent defense.

If you watch the play you see him lower his head. I do only high school football, but I have seen similiar plays and offensive player gets hurt. I have penalized the offensive player. He gets his neck bent down and that is were the injury occurs. We remind players on both sides of the ball in the pre game meeting to keep your head up.

Where did Baylor's whole "rape thing" go? Why does everybody still have their jobs over there?

I totally understand fragging an opponent when you can, but what exactly was Baylor supposed to do? They had no way of knowing this kid was going to rape a student... when he was charged they suspended him from the program... he never once represented Baylor in an NCAA contest... Once convicted he was dismissed from the school... even though a jury in Central Texas gave him probation and not prison...

what happens to BU if they kick him out of school for being charged and then he's acquitted? I'm guessing there would be some civil liability... innocent until proven guilty and all...

Baylor didn't rape anyone or cover up any rapes... those who try to say they did are grinding axes.

Rape is debatable, murder is not.

who did Baylor murder?

What murder did Baylor cover up?

A crazy person with access to firearms killed a poor kid and a sleazeball basketball coach got scared that his cheating would be expossed, but Baylor didn't kill anyone or hide the fact that a nut did kill a student...

btw, the President, AD and the entire Basketball Staff was fired after that unfortunate incident.

Great job using tragedy to trash an opponent.

Yeah, Seth Russell is completely to blame for getting injured there IMO. He shouldn't have lowered his head. If he doesn't, he just gets a shoulder pad to the chest and gets form tackled and nothing happens. Lowering your head like that is a good way to get hurt bad.

The defender is going to be naturally lowering their head somewhat to put their shoulder pad into your midsection.

Don't disagree... ISU has no blame in this at all... you guys played a great game.... Seth shouldn't have ducked his head.... tough break for a good kid.

To blame the ISU player for this would be as wrong as blaming Baylor University for a kid getting shot by a nut or a poor girl being raped....

no thinking human being would do that.

Seth Russell is a gamer, plain and simple. I hadn't seen him play until this past Saturday, but boy is he a gamer. Hard to not like a kid like that. He just wants to win.

Unfortunately for him, it's that attitude that likely got him hurt too. He lowers his head because he's a gamer. If he was smart he'd just slide and live for another down, but that's not in his DNA.

I mean, they forced the girl accusing him of rape to be in the same class as him without making accommodations, to the point that she transferred. I would say Baylor University was definitely in the wrong there.

Just curious, is there anyone in the Baylor fanbase asking why the kid was even playing late in the 4th when the game was not in question?

A concussion would be worse for the kid. This will heal in time, concussions really don't.

Concussions can and do heal fully.

All leading research indicates that a person can and will fully heal from a single concussion. Further, if allowed to completely heal, a person is not at any higher risk of getting another concussion than anyone else who has never had a concussion. The major danger is when a player sustains a concussion, returns to play prior to fully healing, then sustains another concussion. This is the reason we are all seeing a much higher emphasis being placed on having spotters at college and pro games to try to identify more quickly anyone who may have sustained a head injury, and why players immediately are subjected to tests on the sidelines by doctors and/or athletic trainers fully trained in recognizing and diagnosing concussions. The sooner a player can be diagnosed, the less chance that player has of re-entering a game and sustaining further injury to an already traumatized brain.

The best way to combat concussions and neck injuries is to avoid them. Russell clearly led with the crown of his helmet when running the ball, which is preached against by every coach across the county. "Keep your head up!" He found out in an unfortunate way one of the main reasons coaches preach that...

Not all concussions fully heal. Not all neck injuries fully heal. Some concussions do fully heal, especially those that are "bell-ringers" or mild. Some neck injuries do fully heal.

To say that one is worse than the other as a blanket statement is ignorant and a dangerous game to play. The lingering effects of either, however "minor" they may appear to an outsider, are debilitating and can be incredibly frustrating to deal with.
