There are a lot of things this year that could make a playoff decision very difficult.

What happens if there are like 9 one loss teams?

Wouldn't want to be the people who make those decisions...

Nothing difficult about it at all. You take the 4 teams with the biggest brand names / media markets. Period. That's what sells ads for the TV rights holders.

I would guess there are two rule books on this. One is the official one that has copious BS about computer rankings and human polls and "body of work" crap. And the real one that lists the blue bloods on one page and nobody on the other.

Go to 8 team playoff all P5 get 1 team in, any undefeated lower conference champ gets in, if more than 3 lower conferene undefeateds selection committee choses the 3, if less than 3 selection committee chosen the remaining slots at large.

Everyone has something to play for and makes every game in every conference count.

Want in the playoffs?

1. Go undefeated - P5 a lock, mid-major probably a lock
2. If you don't go undefeated win your conference championship - P5 a lock, mid major unlikely
3. If you don't win your conference championship only lose to the conference champion. - P5 , probably only the best conferences get 2 teams in, very unlikely any conference gets 3 in.

If Memphis wins out, they will not make the playoffs. For you people wanting expansion into the BIGXII, if Memphis loses out, I promise you that the owner of FEDEX will give all his money and left nut for Memphis to be included into the conference. Hell, he's already guaranteed that the BIGXII's other members will not have to take a pay cut if he brings Memphis into the conference. He has promised that he will make it right for Memphis's finances. Don't be surprised if he tries to bring Louisville either as a total package. Think of the basketball conference this could be. I know I'd be all for it.

Teams will not be random. It will be researched by league members for the money angles.

It already has been and there's a reason we're still at 10.

The Big 12 missed its best chance when it could've beaten the ACC to the punch and grabbed Louisville and Pittsburgh to get to 12. Now only scraps are left.

I still think the ultimate goal is 16 for all leagues, its just a matter of which conference won't reach 16 and folds. We have to hope that the SEC goes northeast for VT and a North Carolina school, which could lead to an exodus of ACC schools. That'd potentially open up FSU, Miami, GT, Clemson, Louisville and Pittsburgh for the Big 12. The Big Ten would then get their pick. What makes me nervous in that scenario is who the Pac 12's four will be.

Add BYU and either Memphis or Cincinnati. Create an eight team playoff. Five power conferences send their CCG winner to the playoff with three at large teams. Not that complicated.

I'm not sold on BYU. They have the fanbase, stadium, tradition but they are the wrong direction and are another "all about themselves" school. That is a culture we don't need. Let's get Memphis and Cincy - both have great basketball tradition, link to WVU and close enough to other schools. Obviously their FB needs major work for the power-5 level (facilities) but they have had good success in the Big East & American.

Why do people keep talking about ACC teams leaving the ACC? Is this a necro thread and I just didn't realize it?

Nobody is leaving the ACC- they have a GOR in place.

Any school outside the current footprint would add significant travel cost for non-revenue sports and I don't see schools which would add to the current tv revenue. A net financial loss isn't what ISU needs. Chances are slim but if somehow Missouri could be convinced to return (SEC has no grant of rights) then Missouri + BYU might be workable.

1 loss Oklahoma has a better shot at getting in then a 1 loss TCU/Baylor.. Or other teams without a "name"

SEC will always get in because they have more representatives who are involved with picking the playoff teams.

If this "acc network" doesn't pan out...and it likely won't. A lot of promises to schools who signed those GOR's will go unfulfilled.

It only takes 1 large domino to fall. After that the floodgates will open. If 7 conference members leave, the conference dissolves.

The Big12 suddenly looks good to keep 6 of your ACC buddies together. Makes it tough for pods or divisions though.

I will say for the record that I do like playing every team one a year and twice in baseketball.

I want Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Texas A&M back, plus TCU, WVU, Lou and BYU. That'd be a fantastic super conference.
