Not convinced more is better

I think fans of some schools are starting to question the appeal of mega conferences. If those fans stop attending games, I think that will get the attention of Athletic Directors. When is the last time Iowa played Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State? That will only get worse with a 16 team conference.

BCS is already a separate entity from the NCAA. I could see them negotiate one TV contract for all Power 5 conferences in conjunction with an 8 team playoff. I could see 6 conferences with 12 teams each. Play one non-conference game and then the 11 other teams in your conference. The 6 champs get an automatic bid to the playoff and 2 other at-large teams are selected from the 6 conferences.

69,000 Seat stadium -
Going into game this week ranked between Ole Miss and Florida State
Sch to play ND this weekend
200 miles from Morgantown, WV
45 min from PHL
Class wrestling, FB, BB programs.

Number 4 TV market in all US.
Also to be fair it should be noted they play in the Philadelphia Eagles stadium because they don't have their own and pay the Eagles 1 million a year to do so.

Iowa played Ohio State and Michigan in 2013, and last played Penn State in 2012. Last time they played all 3 was 2010, beating unranked Michigan on the road and #22 Penn state at home while losing to #9 tOSU.

Remember these are just espn ratings so since big 12 has a lot of games on fox am sure Dallas for example tops the fox ratings markets. But shows the value of adding Memphis to the big 12 market as they are big college football fans. And a great recruiting area.

This guy thinks Fox wants as many as 4 more teams and willing to pay.... interesting

Please quit mentioning teams like Colorado State and Boise State....they will NEVER be in the Big 12, as it would be the end of the league. A way to guarantee teams like OU and UT depart and the conference crumbles into oblivion. So unless you actually want Iowa State to end up in the MAC, let go of this absurd fantasy of CSU joining the league.

The Big 12 will wait till the early 20's to see if the ACC is torn up by the B1G/SEC's efforts to get to 16. That's pretty much the only path towards expansion for the Big 12....anything else leads to league oblivion because the financial hit will cause the major schools to leave.

Temple is trying to get the funding to build it's own stadium on or near campus...The latest proposed numbers for the new stadium would put capacity around 30,000, which wouldn't be bad for them since just two years ago their average attendance was 25,000. This year they did fill the Linc for the Penn St game, but that was the only one it was even near full for.

That's assuming, of course, that the Big 12 makes it to the early '20s.

As of right now, if I had to choose four teams to bring in it would have to be BYU, Memphis, Temple and UCF

UCF only to give the conference a Florida footprint....it was a toss up with Cincy and Temple, but Temple is in a very large market. The travel requirements for teams to BYU is tough to swallow, but they are the truly the best team available as far as overall program and fan base.

Agree on UCF - as long as it's our designated rival. Cold weather for them after Thanksgiving when they come to Ames, and a nice destination for clones fans when we play there

Temple didn't fill anything for the Penn State game. That was a PSU home game with a sizable visitors section of Temple fans.

Temple would be an awful addition to the Big 12 right now.

I love the current final 4 setup NYE and 10 days later.

They just need to figure out, 4 conferences. The (8) division winners play at the end of November (round 1). Then the final 4 like now.

Just so you know. IN that scenario, the big 12 is likely gone from existence and we likely move to a lower conference, or to the big10.

IMO it is a mistake to say Temple is a good choice based on their cuurent success in FB. Traditionally, they have been one of the worst programs in the country AND they have never been in a strong conference. The Big12 bringing in Temple would be a mistake on par with the Big10 bringing in Rutgers. Heck UConn makes more sense. Stronger mens & womens hoops and as a state school better fan interest.

Tulane? Please no! When conferences add programs just because of tv markets it makes real fans puke. Rutgers to the Big 10 was just awful. Please Big12 don't pull a Rutgers--- Oklahoma and Texas would bolt and we would be left with a Conference USA type league

Texas and Oklahoma can't bolt, and if they did the Big12 would still be in tact and the remaining schools would still be getting the money from Texas/Oklahomas media rights thanks to the GOR. Texas/Oklahoma would have to get most of the conference to also agree to leave to pull it off and dissolve the Big12.

I wouldn't see us adding any more schools until it makes financial sense. When is our current TV contract up? Even having a championship game will not up the individual schools coffers enough to make it worth spilling the pie 12 ways instead of 10.

A lot seem to think it's about quality athletics and it has 0 to do with that. It's TV sets. BIG didn't take Rutgers and Maryland for anything but TV sets. XII missed the large opportunity when the ACC and Mountain West were on shaky ground.
