Don't get me wrong, ISU had a great gameplan last night, and "ground and pound" is the best style of play for the personnel on this team.
But Texas didn't have players at the skill positions to take advantage of ISU's weaknesses the way TCU did, or Baylor did in building a big lead last week. OU is more like those teams than this year's version of the Longhorns. You probably can't "ground and pound" your way out of a 28-0, 2nd quarter hole if it comes to that.
There will be games where the Cyclones need prove they can score quickly by getting playmakers into the open field. Mangino felt one way about that, CPR definitely has a different view about how to get it done. Either way Lanning does not have a lot of time to figure it out. I like what I've seen, but I know next week is a much bigger challenge for the Offense and Defense than this week was.
