One week and people will be back to cursing everything... We did not turn into some dominating power run team in one week... Texas is bad. OU will stuff the run game and we will just keep on trying it like usual.

I suspect the coaches in general were not ready to go away from Sam to put in Lanning, simply because they did not know if Lanning was ready to play. Lanning did throw a lot of pretty bad passes last night, so it isn't like he is Aaron Rogers back there. The question I had was why it took 3-4 weeks to figure out that Warren was the stud RB?

It's a perfect circle. You can check it with actual geometry.

What bothers me is that people bag on Wally, but fail to realize that with a halfway competent offense that allows the defense to actually rest more than 3 minutes at a time, his defenses have always been strong.

Why did it take so long to make this move to Lanning? Why has it taken so long to blow up the quick screens to the outside? I feel like the fans have been begging for this for a while and nothing has been done about it till this long? It's frustrating thinking how different things could possibly be right now if the coaches didn't have to learn on the job. A lot of fans saw it. Why didn't the coaches?
There were a few bubble screens once they stopped pressing or WR. It was more of a change of pace play rather than the basis of our offense.

This is it, the games where we go 3 and out almost every possession are the games where our defense gets worse and worse as the game goes on. The previous two years in particular were just horrendous in that area. The Baylor game where they broke records on us we were 3 and out pretty much every single possession for 4 quarters. We play a half of decent offense against Baylor this year and what do you know, their scoring comes down to earth somewhat.

THis. I know it's coach speak, but in the post game presser, Rhoads said that Lanning didn't exceed expecttions. He said that that's what they expected from him, and he performed well. If that's what you expectedfrom him... WHY THE HECK HASNT HE BEEN STARTING?!!? That said, I'm back to supporting Rhoads, and have been since second half against Baylor. It takes a special kind of coach to keep players buying in with this few wins.

Warren was in the mix right at the beginning. He didn't start to "get it" until about the third game of the season, from then on it's been All Warren. Have you noticed how many carries Brown has been getting the last few games? He was the starter beginning of the season.

It's not easy to bench a 5th year senior QB to a sophomore rookie. It seems obvious now but it sounds like Lanning wasn't exactly lighting it up over Sam in practice.

They talked about this on the postgame show. Lanning has been doing things in games that don't show up at practice. Like running the ball, taking hits, and being calm under pressure.

What I was wondering...it seems like SR ran a lot more last year, and was pretty effective at it, and that was one of Lanning's strengths last night.

Was SR kept from running, and why, and why does it seem like Lanning has the green light to head down field when the play's not there?

Otherwise the plan to not only run first, but also head downhill on pass plays seemed like a new direction.

Texas defense is not bad. They looked like our defense after offense three and out. Their qbs cannot throw the ball very well. They need a new qb.

Teams knew he could run and had issues throwing accurate passes. They forced him to beat them with his arm, and he couldn't do it.

This. As much as I enjoyed watching this game, especially the shutout part, I think people are WAY overreacting to this being some sort of sea change event. As much as I liked the defense and the play of Lanning (Warren was already awesome) we have two more games with ranked opponents that can score tons. After all of the dust settled we still didn't score a ton of points. It's a little unfair to suddenly expect this "new" team go out and play toe to toe with OU and OSU.

I'll take any wins we can get and expect to beat KSU and maybe stay with WVU but trying to keep it a little real with expectations.
Agree 100%. I think Texas with its' limitations in the passing game was a good matchup for us. Thought we had a good chance in this game though I sure did not expect the one sided game. Will be interesting when we play OU and they spread us our. I'm sure the OU/Texas film is a help on how to defend OU. Looked to me like the DL of Texas was pretty talented. LBers and DBS not as much.

Remember when this defense was built to stop Big 12 offenses?
