Sleeper Agent woke up today? Time to raise the CF alert level to CFCON3.

the CF electorate makes it readily apparent that if you don't have over 10,000 posts your opinion does not matter

Reminds me of this Abraham Lincoln quote referencing Proverbs 17:28. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."

I don't like posters equating length or number of posts = quality of post, however klamath has a point. I, too, found it very odd that someone joined in 2011 and made their first post today. It took the OP a lot of discipline (or simply disappearred) to lurk that long and fire off about Rhoads', especially considering Rhoads' previous years' performances.

You really think we're gonna best OSU?

No I dont but we havent played the games yet. If we lose out, he should go. If we get to a bowl game against this schedule, he gets my vote for one more year.

Who is that? He is not a splash hire for anyone, not even us. They just lost to NIU which hurt his credentials IMO. He is the type of guy we need. Someone that can coach in the trenches, which is where a school like ISU needs to win in order to be successful.

Not everyone is looking for a splash hire, there are some schools out there that want just a good coach even if there isn't instant gratification with the name recognition.

Back to the topic, I thought if Rhoads makes five wins, he'll keep his job at ISU. (Not saying I agree with it, I just think ISU will keep him.) Three wins he'll be gone. Four wins he should be gone, however who knows with Pollard and donors.

I've been reading a lot of posts in support of Paul Rhoads sticking around for another year, and I am saddened by how little we expect of our football team and coaches. I'm sick of the same chorus after another terrible football year of "Wait till next year, we will be better". That is the same thing I heard last year when Paul Rhoads should have been fired. I'm tired of being the fan base that expects so little of our football team that we can't be let down. I mean 3 wins... 3 wins?! We keep talking about how good the teams we lost to are, but we don't talk about how bad the teams we beat are. Everyone is over the moon about beating a 3-5 Texas team. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Would we expect so little from our basketball team? Would we constantly bemoan how difficult it is to recruit players to Ames is? No, we have had success, and now we expect something better. We should want the same thing for football. It reminds me a of a Kitchen Nightmares episode where the owner of a failing business is so scared to change (even though he is losing money hand over fist) because he doesn't want to alienate his current customers. I want to try something new. People ask me, "Who would you want instead?" My answer is, I don't care. Anyone else. This didn't work, next one up. Because what we are currently doing isn't working. I'm ready for a change.

Blah Blah Blah - its being a realist....

#1 - Besides the power house schools - when you schedule the most difficult schedule in the nation, do you really have expectations of 7-8-9 wins.... If so, then your a fan that has no grasp and is blaming Rhoads, thats easy. How bout removing Iowa, North Dakota St, UNI and playing charlotte or someone like the other schools schedule. Then you only have to carve out 3 big twelve wins and your bowl eligible. Instead, you play for the payday with Iowa and UNI and when you lose you suffer. Wins bring in recruits, which allows to schedule the tougher opponents. Schedule Tough opponents and try to win and if you lose, you lose on recruits too.

#2 - Rhoads buyout is 4.5 million.... So if you haters out there expect better, then open up your pocket book and write Jamie a check, but make it a big one like six digits.

#3 - Ames Iowa. Great place to be a student, raise a family, bad place to recruit too. Our recent modifications with the football building and now with the addition to the stadium improves recruiting, makes program Big 12 quality.

If you fire Rhoads, your going to remove money to pay for buyout, have to pay someone else more to come here and then you still have to win here. I think Rhoads has learned from Hoiberg and Snyder. Infuse juco talent at key positions. I think he's finally got the winning ticket on how to be successful in Ames or Manhattan. Getting rid of Mangino (which i loved as a hire) is a move that sends a message - Rhoads will be here next year.

If we get to a bowl game with this schedule (playing 5 teams in the Top 15 and @ Toledo), I'd consider that a successful year and no way should Rhoads be fired or even considered to be fired.

(But I'm pretty confident that won't happen)

I don't think that the number of openings should matter on if CPR stays or goes, more than enough candidates to go around. That said I hope we go with a current HC if there is a change, which would be a much more limited pool.

The buyout is still an issue. I would imagine there are ways around that though. Find a coach that is currently making $300k and offer him $1M at a P5 school. Then put in a clause that says if he is still the coach the year after we are done paying CPR his salary jumps to $2M.

This policy is admirable in my opinion, assuming you could guarantee schools weren't going to cheat. Why not give the kid a chance? Special treatment blah blah blah. This world is full of people who knew somebody to get where they are today.

You would be assuming a lot of things. I don't disagree with giving kids opportunities as long as everyone is playing by the same rules. They aren't playing by the same rules and acting as if they have higher standards.

That's also why junior colleges exist. The player has every chance to make it DI going that route.

Anyway.... just thought I would shed some light on many things the big ten puts out there that aren't accurate.

Hey first off i was saying that in terms of recruiting talent to Ames - i love ames.... Im not hatin here.... Just not a big city thats all-no disrespect. The others hmmm... What does Norman and Stillwater have that Ames don't....

Well here's a list:
1. Norman - 7 National Championships, Stadium that seats 100,000 people, Bob Stoops, 44 conference titles, 5 heisman winners, 76 all americans.

2. Stillwater - State of the Art stadium renovation - we spent 20 million, they spent 315 million, comparable in size, 10 conference titles, 1 heisman winner, 17 all americans, endless uniforms, 25 bowl games...

3. Manhatten - without Bill Snyder - Nothing different. Bill Snyder is a different cat... great coach. But, they have won 6 conference championships, been to 18 bowl games, 12 all americans. A little more success then ISU.

They have success and history - thats what they have that Ames don't have...

If you're going to use Sagarin SOS rankings to defend Rhoads, also look at the Sagarin ratings which are produced after adjusting for that SOS.

He's back if he loses out. It's the cold hard truth, but it is what it is I guess.

I've accepted this as truth. Whether it plays out that way remains to be seen, but since he got the amazing win against a hapless Texas team, he'll be back. Really wish our AD would take the football program more seriously.
