Paul Rhoads’ days as head coach of the Cyclones are over, per source. Sources tell FootballScoop that Rhoads is telling his team now and we expect the university to confirm the news later this afternoon.

Rhoads’ seven years at Iowa State included some extremely memorable wins; but over the past few seasons those wins have become fewer and fewer with only 8 total wins over the past three seasons. Rhoads final record in Ames will stand as 32-54.

Probably necessary. But still a sad thing.

Bobby La Gesse of the Ames Tribune confirmed the report:

Saturday's 4th quarter was exactly what has to happen to go from probably saved your job to probably fired.

I agree it was time.

I wish he could have succeeded. I really like Paul Rhoads the guy.

Seems odd to not let him finish the season at this point.

Not usually one to relish in people getting fired, but after yesterday this needed to be done. CPR seems like a stand up guy, but it just wasn't working out anymore.

I feel for Paul and I really wanted him to succeed here. Having said that, there's no probably about it. He has to go.

I wasn't quite there yet, but I tend to err on the other side.

I'll say this, I got more joy out of Iowa State football the 7 years he was here than I did the rest of my life. The last 3 years have sucked, but the first 4 were really fun.

The new coach is going to be left with a lot of pretty good pieces. Paul and his staff did do that.
