that island napoleon got sent to
why exactly?

Because I think its OK to feel bad that a necessary decision has been made?

Iowa State football has been a **** show for its entire history. Rhoads was about the level of all of the rest of the 'losers' that coached here. In some ways (wins over ranked teams, conference wins on the road), Rhoads was better than the others.

The last 3 years have been bad. I don't disagree with the decision to fire him, but I sure as hell don't think this is some great victory for Iowa State. We'll likely end up with another coach who will follow the exact same road as the rest of them.

at some point you have to be accountable for your decisions. Yes, the highs were high but the lows have been especially low for 3 years now.

It is like a breakup or a divorce. except in this divorce he gets 4.5 million.

Your argument is that he is the best we can do. I don't think that is true. The landscape of college football has changed and if you have someone at the helm that doesn't see that... well then you'll never improve.

twitter, jerseys, and music might seem like bs to you but when you want to change a program's culture well you have to crack eggs.

Re: Per ESPN Rhodes gone Presser at Noon

It's time he left and we get someone with an easier name to spell. Seriously, Rhoads has been at ISU for 7 years and people still can't spell the man's name correctly.

Coach Rhoads didn't help himself this season or last, but I'll always believe realignment's effects on recruiting following Rhoads best years are what ultimately did him in.

yeah, he wasn't quick enough on the changes. He obviously really wanted to win bringing in Mangino and then firing Mangino, but he wasn't quite quick enough on his decisions. And ultimately some of them were the wrong decisions. But I do agree that the recruiting (and play) really suffered when everyone was saying we'd be in the Mountain West or some ****** Big East football conference. The last few years, we've had some better recruits.

Honestly, this year was close to turning out good. We were close against Toledo, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State. Close isn't enough in year 7, but the new coach will have a better team than it appears to start with.

Re: Paul Rhoads has been fired....

The Prhom hire said nothing of the sort. We paid market rate, that's it.

I wouldn't say we paid the market rate necessarily. We paid the minimum amount we could to attract a guy that was making 500k or so before. There was no reason to offer Prohm more than what we knew he would take, so I guess that's the "market" rate, but where does it put him as far as what other Big 12 basketball coaches are making? Probably near the bottom would be my guess.

For running a top 10 program, 1.5 million a year is nothing.

Rhoads will coach his Iowa State finale next week at West Virginia. That answers the question of who will be HC next Saturday:

Brett McMurphy ‏@McMurphyESPN

Even though Paul Rhoads has been fired, he will coach Iowa State’s finale at West Virginia Saturday

I doubt it. But be prepared to be underwelmed with our new coach.

I'm guessing that this is Leath's influence. Jamie probably would have waited. I have very mixed feelings on Leath. I obviously was glad that he allegedly stuck his head in the basketball coaching search. But I don't like the idea of him making these types of decisions in theory. Same thing with this. I trust Leath about as far as I can throw him.

JP should not in any way be making a decision on a football coach...ever again. He has failed with every hire. I'm perfectly fine with giving Leath a shot. He's a southern guy and he knows what good football is supposed to look like. It is far better to have a President that sees the value in having a winning fball program than not.

I didn't think Pollard would have the balls to do it. Sorry JP, time to eat crow.

Right, but we couldn't get anyone better. That's the thing---if we were truly a good program we could have found someone good who would have taken the job for $3 million. And we couldn't.

Football is much, much worse.

Need to know where I can watch the presser. Sorry, CPR, it was time for you to go.
