FWIW, I have some doubts that the triple option will work against defenses already geared to defend space and speed.

The best hire would be a disciple of the Urban Meyer/Nick Saban/Bill Snyder type philosophy. Super smart, super organized, super X&O guy, super ability to hire good assistant coaches that buy into the Head Coach's system and recruit the best players possible for the system. These coaches breathe leadership, individual position responsibility and accountability to the team through the entire organization - they don't dance around on the sideline or show up on YouTube or blame players or charts for letdowns...

With the point totals that are being put up in big 12 games I wouldn't be too concerned with that. It's a ball control offense that's built for teams that don't have a personnel advantage on the offensive line and force teams to be consistently fundamental. Which, at the collegiate level, is extremely difficult to do when teams only practice defending it one week per season.

There's a power part of running the triple option though and hitting teams hard between the tackles can still challenge smaller, faster defenses. There is also a ball control mentality with that offense that would keep Baylor and Oklahoma offense on the sideline. It could be just the type of scheme that could have ISU competitive in every single game. Big 12 defenses would have little experience against an attack like that. Niumatalolo and Willie Fritz(Georgia Southern) would both run that offense FWIW.

Might as well shut down this thread - jsb has already proclaimed Iowa State will be unable to hire anybody. No point discussing. Just shut it all down and become a basketball school. Oh wait - jsb also said we'll be abject failures with Prohm as coach. Might as well blow up the entire AD and become a school school.

Oh here we go. Cant wait to hear your reasoning.

I'm guessing because he thinks Navy is a better situation than Iowa State. Never mind Iowa State can pay him more than Navy ever can, plus he will have access to talent that will never have the restrictions the Naval Academy places on its student athletes. Navy is just a better situation because he said so.

Going on my 41-year as a Cyclone fan (my Frosh year was 1975), I have been through 7-FB coaches:
+ Bruce
+ Duncan
+ Criner
+ Walden
+ Mac
+ Chiz
+ Rhoads

Convince me -what will be different this time?

We get somebody successful, and he's hired away; most likely the next guy is fired 5-years from now. Sorry, if I'm a little 'jilted'

We know how to write the check, but nobody will be there to accept it. Such a shame.
